McDonald's Healthcare

I read an article in the Wall Street Journal (I would post the link, but it's not free) about McDonald's executives having to defend their healthcare options for their hourly chain workers.

Rundown:
Assumes $8/Hour @v40 hours/Week
Employee Cost
$710 ($27.31/Check)
Annual Benefit Cap
$2000
Pre Tax % of Income (Cap as % of Income)
4.3% (12%)
After Federal Tax % of Income (Cap as % of Income)
4.9% (13.7%)

How does McDonald's justify having employees pay $710 annually for just $2000 of medical coverage? That's 1 trip to the emergency room. I just had an appendectomy and I know $2000 doesn't cover it. The cheapest corporate healthcare plans McDonald's offers cost $682 & $920 and have no annual cap. Only 10% of hourly workers hit the annual limit and the insurance company keeps the rest of the premiums. The insurance company gets away this cap thanks to McDonald's. This is not health insurance, this is effectively payment $710 to go to the doctor and get some medication. If anyone is really sick they are screwed. Under the new healthcare law the annual cap should be $750K but that was waived for McDonald's because the company said they would drop insurance for their hourly workers. Sen Kay Bailey Hutchinson of Texas defended McDonald's.

I ran some numbers:
If 250K workers participate
$178M in Revenue
10% hit the cap + 2% to account for other coverage
$60M in expenses
$118M Rough Gross Margin, 66%

If 100K workers participate
$71M in Revenue
10% hit the cap + 2% to account for other coverage
$20M in expenses
$51M Rough Gross Margin, 72%

This is what's wrong with this country. McDonald's is large enough that they could push on a health insurance company to get a more favorable deal, however the corporation doesn't want to incur anymore costs for people they could really care less about because they know they can easily replace them as this country moves towards producing more and more uneducated children.

This is why a public option or healthcare co-ops would work. If the working poor, which is what you are when you have a healthcare limit of $2000, could at least pool their money then it could be used to provide healthcare to those who need it rather than go to corporate profits. I'm not against corporate profits, except when it comes to health insurance companies.

NFL Week 11 Recap

The Chargers are in their annual 2nd half season push. Phillip Rivers MVP talk needs to be tamed down as he is clearly being helped by one of the best defenses in the league. The Chargers defense got 4 picks off Peyton Manning. Are the Colts going to miss the playoffs? They play the Cowboys this week so they should win...

The Bears contained Mike Vick, kind of. Desean Jackson is apparently frustrated by his lack of production. I can't fully blame him for trying to avoid a safety looking to hit him after the shot he took about a month ago but he can't complain after that. The Bear's D deserves credit as does the horrible field but Jay Cutler won that game. Asante Samual not playing was huge. The best baiting corner in the league against the 2nd or 3rd biggest gunslinger...

The Falcons deserve credit for beating the Packers... But not a lot, a key play wasn't reviewed because the Superdome replay tech didn't provide the replay in the stadium. Yes it is up to that person whether the assistants see the replay quickly or not. Anyway Tony Gonzalez dropped a 4th down pass on a scoring drive. I still say they are overrated. Don't talk to me about Matty Ice, moving the Falcons 25 yards at the end of the game...

Derelle Revis looks like an above average corner, but his elite status is gone. Is he even a top 5 corner? Nnamdi, Asante, Cromartie, Woodson, Champ... I'm gaining some respect for Sanchez, but I'm not sold. He's got so many weapons he should be killing it. Since we're close to focal he gets a successful.

Andre Johnson beat Cortland Finnegan's ass and that punk deserved it. All he does is try to irritate people, and he got his. Both got fined $25K. Finnegan acts kinda like Jeff Fisher...
Irvin: He did a wonderful job blocking those punches... With his face
Deion: Watch this 3 piece spicey, let's count them together. 1,2,3...

NFC Ranking:
1. Saints
2. Packers
3. Bears
4. Eagles
5. Falcons

AFC Ranking:

2. Chargers
3. Patriots
4. Jets
5. Steelers

Fantasy:
Appendix-Less 11-1
Gucci Playlist 5-7
Southern Music Schizophrenic 4-8
Admins Have Songs They Won't Dance To? 7-5
Q Injured By Week 6 4-8 Bottom of his own league & beaten by the Southern Music Schizophrenic (that sounds like an OutKast album)
Peyton 4 INTs > McNabb 5-7

Realest Op Ed On Fisher v VY

http://msn.foxsports.com/nfl/story/jeff-fisher-vince-young-tennessee-titans-cruel-game-112910

Highlights:
Titans could be in their division hunt
VY was in the wrong, however he snapped because Fisher pushed him too far
Young said he could have gutted the season out
Young was having his best season (98.6 Rating)
The Titans quit on Fisher because of how he has treated Young
Fisher has 5 playoff appearances in 16 years (I've heard 6)
Fisher works the media, ESPN in particular
He signed Chris Mortensen's son as a free agent (couldn't start at Samford)
This isn't a race issue

My thoughts:
The fact that Chris Mortensen has been the main ESPN reporter regarding this issue is egregious. ESPN has too much influence on public opinion. Fisher gets way too much credit considering his coaching record.

I don't agree with apologies through text messages however how do you apologize face to face to someone who banishes you from the facility?

Cleveland Responds Back to LeBron's Nike ad...

I think this "tit for tat" response is lame. Cleveland needs to move on. We don't care about ya'll wanting a championship; get over it, ya'll quit on LeBron James by not surrounding him with reasonable talent.
When a GM or owner decides to trade a player, it's a business move, but when a player decides to take their own destiny by the hand, they are looked at as disloyal or traders/backstabbers you name it. F*** outta here whack ass haters.... Ya'll don't own LeBron!!!

MC Hammer is trippin

I wonder if Jay Z is gonna even respond to this...

MC Hammer Releases Jay-Z Diss Track & Video, 'Better Run Run'

Week 8 NFL Recap

I must begin by quickly mentioning that Trevor rolled me like Ugly Herbal last week in fantasy football 142-88 but that is not why there was no recap…

The Lions got their 2nd win by beating the Skins. Mike Shanahan, the genius that he is, benched D McNabb because Rex Grossman is more comfortable with their 2 minute drill… Really? Then Shanny said McNabb isn’t in shape. Neadless to say the Skins lost largely because Rex fumbled and Suh picked it up and scored 6. What pisses me off the most is that McNabb won’t say anything about the situation. Forget not making waves, stand up for yourself. This is one of the things I hate about McNabb, the Little Orphan Annie The Sun Will Come Out Tomorrow approach to everything. But that wouldn’t make me bench him for Rex. Megatron had 3 TDs.

The Saints apparently need to be playing a good team in primetime so they can make sure to get up for the game. The beat the Steelers in a defensive game. The Saints defense looks like the 2009 version. They could be really dangerous when Bush and Pierre Thomas return.

The Bucs beat the Cardinals. I have been saying Josh Freeman is playing well and is better than Mark Sanchez for over a month, finally some others have started noticing this… Mike Williams, 4th rounder out of Syracuse is playing well, great for a rookie. Raheem Morris turned this team around quick (coach of the year?), it’s still early but the Bucs aren’t a joke…

I keep hearing about the Jets, but they lost to the Packers 3 FGs because Mark Sanchez is not that dude… Missed passes, bad INTs give Josh Freeman this guys weapons and you’ll see that dude. The Packers have been decimated by injuries and lost very close games but they are hanging in there. The key delta between the Packers and the Cowboys… Leadership

A week after the Raiders beat the Broncos senseless they beat the Seahawks down, sacking Hasselbeck 8 times. Jason Campbell is playing well. This team is 4-4 with an outside chance at making the playoffs. Imagine what a rookie salary cap and GM could do for this team?

The Patriots beat the Vikings 28-18 and Favre is being praised for his toughness for playing with 2 fractures in his ankle… His lack of mobility didn’t help his team. The Vikings did not look prepared for the game. Percy Harvin continues to reep the benefits of the attention paid to Randy Moss.
Brad Childress told his team Moss will be cut but apparently the owner hasn’t signed off on that… Maybe Childress will get fired. Why does he think Percy Harvin is blowing up all of a sudden? Compare Wes Welker and Percy Harvin game by game, there is an inverse correlation to their productivity, his name is Randy Moss!

Colts beat the Texans, Peyton wants MVP #4
Chargers beat Titans after VY gets hurt
49ers beat Broncos, Troy Smith getting it done at QB
Dolphins beat Bengals because Carson continues to suck
The Boys have quit so the Jaguars rolled them, time to clean house?
Chiefs survived the Bills
Rams beat Panthers

NFC:
Packers
Saints
Giants?
Eagles?
Not the Falcons

AFC:
Colts
Ravens
Patriots
Steelers

Fantasy Recap:

Jen’s OOP Dec 4th 3-5, L
Think Jill Scott 3-5, L (Lucky pickup with Vick, why Kenya cut him I don’t know)
Mr Halftime Adjustments 5-3, W

Prime Time # 34 Football Player All-Time?

"Rice was the best, Jim Brown, LT.... Prime"

I agree Deion is way too low. Deion is the best cover corner ever, he is the reason that term exists. There has never been a more dangerous player... Throw to him he might take it for 6, punt to him he can take it, kick off to him and he could score on offense too. Stats don't do Deion justice... I wish I was old enough to remember him bossing Jerry Rice cuz just from the highlights he clearly did it more than once.

Deion is one of the greatest athletes ever. Who plays in the MLB NLCS and then goes to play an NFL game the same day? World Series and 2 Super Bowl rings...

NFL Week 6 Recap

Who Are the Contenders:
Ravens (with Reed)
Steelers
Colts

Tier 2:
Saints
Eagles (with Vick and DJ healthy)
Packers (if they get healthy)

Tier 3:
Texans
Jets
Bears
Patriots
Cowboys
Vikings
Titans

Finally people saw on national television that the Falcons are highly overrated, were analyst lazy and not watching the film? I couldn’t believe for the last 2 weeks how much that team was being gassed. Kevin Kolb is trying to get his job back. DJ and J Maclin balled, but DJ could be out a few weeks after a vicious hit that should draw a huge fine and suspension. He has a severe concussion. I still want Mike Vick back, speaking of which there are rumors that something is up because Vick wasn’t on the field during the game even though he was listed as the #3 QB and he was no where to be found after the game… He appparently was given permission to show up 45 minutes prior to the game because he’s still recovering from injury… Something is up.

For the 2nd straight week the Packers lost in OT. That team has been ravaged by serious injuries this season… Aaron Rodgers shrugged off his “mild” concussion last week to play well but the Dolphins ran all over the Packers. The Pack should have traded a 4th rounder for Marshawn Lynch (now a Seahawk), they should pull the trigger and get Marion Barber. Schefter wrote that the Boys could dump his salary for a 4th rounder and the Pack get a RB who can block too… Brandon Marshall got loose, 10 for 127yds… 90% of that came in the 1st half.

The Texans came back to beat the Chiefs. The Texans defense isn’t getting it done, losing DeMeco Ryans for the rest of the year won’t help. No one has heard from Brian Cushing since he returned from his overtraining aka steroid suspension. The Cheifs lost because they have a USC QB who can’t complete short passes, the only difference from Sanchez on MNF is that Matt Schaub took advantage of the opportunity unlike Favre…

The Boys lost to the Vikings. The Boys continue to make stupid mistakes, but they are being flagged unnecessarily at this point. Excessive celebration calls are subjective and I have never seen what has happened over the past 2 weeks deemed excessive in any other games. 2 players throwing up the "Hook Em Horns" is not what the rule is supposed to prevent. The PI call on Mike Jenkins was subjective, don’t think I would have called it. The PI on Miles Austin was ridiculous. Now to Tony Romo… Even Skip Bayless blamed the loss almost entirely on Romo. On his first INT he should have taken a sack, the second maybe he should have seen MLB EJ Henderson and maybe not, but it’s the 4th quarter. Allowing another big kickoff return also killed the Cowboys. Again, leadership is a problem everywhere in this organization.Jerry Jones, this is all on you.

The Patriots narrowly beat the Ravens thanks the Ravens only scoring 3 pts in the 4th. Joe Flacco needs to get it together. I don’t care if the Pats won, they are not better without Randy Moss. I can’t wait to see the Ravens play with Ed Reed and Mount Cody. Oh and I’m not leaving out Justin Bieber's diss on Brady: “Sacked like a sacker. Call Mr Brady, tell him to leave his hair to that guy who sings ‘Baby’” Wow… I don’t even like Justin Bieber and didn’t know who he was until recently, but he just got cool points, Brady… Your man card just got jacked by a kid going through puberty! Gisele can pick it up at her discretion.

The NFL is visiting suspending defensive players only for "devestating" hits.... I believe this is way to vague. With rules like these you need to be as specific as possible if you are going to penalize the pockets of half the league and disrupt the way football has been played for years overnight. I had an issue in general with punishment based solely on "perceived" victim response. if Desean Jackson, massaquoi, heap, and cribbs and whomever jumped up after hit then this action is never taken. football is a game of inches literally and hits like these are made every quarter.... an inch to the right, up, down, or left and a guy jumps up and boast about how tough he is, but the same distance in a direction opposite can result in career ending fashion. I say with any of this stuff fix the problem not the symptom. they (the officials making money) focus on the sympton becuase that way they can still have vicious hits which people love (99% of hits), random accountability on scapegoats when the extreme negative occurs (1%), and thus circumvent long term law suits and whatever by claiming they tried to do something about this.

The game is dangerous.... you can't over police something like this without changing what it is in totality. if you want to get rid of spearing get rid of helmets, reduce contact in practice, completely overhaul the game. but don't try to have your cake and eat it too. I feel the way they are doing it is wrong and basically ask the people to police themselves but not really. This is very similar to nascar, boxing, or hockey....people go to nascar for crashes on some level; to reduce crashes do you impose a rule to cap the speeds at which drivers can drive (still putting up with some crashes).... in boxing people like knockouts; there's a reason why olympic boxing is hard to watch; one reason is head gear.... in hockey they flirt with the need of fighting in the game (but when it gets out of hand, basically one person doesn't get up, then people "press" charges---absurd). alll of these attractive but brutal aspects of the sport attracts the viewers and in some instances the very people who play.... if you change these the sport is no longer the same.... i don't see many televised flag football games....

I get it there is danger but the game is dangerous.... Another thing why is the hit accountability always on defense.... when are they going to ask the offensive guys to accept some blame and chaneg the way they play... steve young was on last night talking about these hits are high due to the incompetence of today's QBs.... i think that's ridiculous.... the main driver is the athletes are bigger and faster.... i would argue the defenses of today are more complex because the athletes are better.... james harrison is a solid B LB; there are better guys at LB.... james harrison can cover, blitz, stop run better than alot guys in the 80's. you never ask a DT to drop in coverage back then but now you can because the athletes can make that play. from a offensive standpoint what does this do to crack back blocking... is hines ward going to be able to play under these new rules?

this is getting long....

Week 5 NFL Recap

I realized last week, Mike Vick is one of my favorite players and I can’t wait to watch him ball again.

What the hell happened in the NFL?
The Falcons are 4-1 and they should be 2-3 (Saints and 49ers gave them games)
The Chiefs are 3-1 and could have beaten the Colts
The Chargers lost to the Raiders

The Patriots traded Randy Moss to the Vikings for a 3rd round pick and won’t say why… I am rooting against the Patriots even more than usual. The NFL Network asked it’s analysts if WRs are appreciated after Michael Irvin’s interview with T.O. Marshall Faulk was dismissing WRs, talkin bout they don’t block. Maybe the receivers he played with didn’t block, but the one’s that do block get very little credit for it. Great example Irvin gave is that Shannon Sharpe and another guy I’m not old enough to remember aren’t in the Hall of Fame yet… I agree with Irvin, too much credit is given to QBs and not enough to receivers, especially by non-athletic sports writers… Mike Lupica!

The Jets survived a defense that collapsed in the 4th, horrible play calling with less than 4 minutes to go in the game and Sanchez missing open receivers. The Vikings offense was horrible for 3 quarters and then Brett Favre had a spurt of greatness until he threw a pick 6 to end the game. LT is playing at a high level, I think this is the my former team cut me so I’ll get back in shape and “prove them wrong” it’s more like prove I wasn’t working that hard… Sanchez is a bubble, it will burst just like Tech in 2001 and Housing in 2008.

The Cowboys lost to the Titans because they had a ridiculous number of penalties, was it 16? The deal breaker was Jason Witten tossing the ball to Marc Columbo who then spiked it, they did a chest bump and then Columbo fell on the ground. I am not anti celebreations, unless they suck, but this broke the rule. 15 yd backup on the kickoff led to a long returns, the kicker had been kicking touchbacks. The Boys need leadership! I have been saying this for over a year now… Jerry Jones needs a GM. That catch Miles Austin made was sick… And VY was ballin… Mike Jenkins… really? Why are you grabbing a receivervs jersey twice on the opening drive?

The 49ers lost to the Eagles. Mike Singletary went off on Alex Smith, but he responded by leading the offense down the field and almost coming back to win. Maybe Singletary should yell at him before the game… Jeremy Maclin continues to emerge as DJ can’t beat double coverage, I believe I said Maclin would close the gap this year… If you don’t remember, check yahoo I drafted him!

The Bengals lost to the Bucs because of an absolutely horrible call. A Bucs receiver attempted to catch the ball on the sideline, 1. One of his feet was in the air and came down out of bounds, 2. The player did not maintain possession as he hit the ground. Absolutely horrible call, don’t know how that didn’t get talked about more. T.O. was over 100 with a TD again. Carson Palmer continues to be a bum. He is consistently throwing behind receivers and telegraphing passes like he went to UF. Josh Freeman is quietly playing very well, he’s in his 2nd year and gets no run. JOSH FREEMAN IS BETTER THAN MARK SANCHEZ! Yeah I said it. Give Freeman the Jet’s weapons and what do you think he does? Braylon, Holmes, Cotchery, Keller, LT and Greene vs Winslow, Mike Williams, Cadillac and Earnest Graham…

The Colts had troble with the Chiefs but got the W. The Chiefs are not a bunch of scrubs and if they didn’t have a USC QB they would be even better. I still think Peyton will get it together.

The Giants beat the Texans down. When is Gary Kubiak getting fired? How do you start the game off airing it out? I know you have the best WR in the game but your RB is leading the league in rushing. Most teams use their run game to setup the pass game, not the other way around. I guess there’s a reason for that…

The Saints lost to the Cardinals. The Saints miss Reggie Bush more than anyone thought they would. The Cardinals are ridiculously inconsistent. Drew Brees needs to stop throwing INTs.

The Packers lost to the Skins in OT. The Skins should have been called for roughing the passer and given the Packers a chance to win. I don’t understand how refs can blow calls like roughing the passer when they usually throw them too easily…

The Raiders beat the Chargers because the Chargers special teams sucks… That’s the same way the Seahawks beat them.

Other Games:
Falcons beat the Browns, the birds are overrated
Lions beat the Rams down for 1st W
Jags beat Bills
Ravens beat the Broncos
Bears beat down the Panthers, 4 INTs by Todd Collins and the Bears won 23-6 (lucky 4-1 team)

Next Week:
Ravens @ Patriots
Falcons @ Eagles (will Vick play)
Chiefs @ Texans
Boys @ Vikings

NFL Week 4 Recap

Mike Vick got hurt trying to rush for a score. He could be out ½ weeks, this is a big blow to Philly… The Eagles were able to hold on and McNabb beat his old team in Philly. He did receive a standing ovation at the beginning of the game.

The Falcons got another W they didn’t deserve. They should be 1-3 not 3-1. Nate Clements, $9M per (I think $13M this year) whom I told you all he was overrated a while ago (check the rankings posts), intercepted “Matty Ice” and then allowed Roddy White to strip him at the end of the 4th quarter. That loss is all on Clements and his bloated contract. I’m tired of hearing about the Falcons, their like the Broncos last year, can’t wait for them to get knocked off.

The Ravens beat the Steelers on a clutch play by Joe Flacco followed by a clutch INT by Ray Lewis. Just think, the Colts wish Kelvin Hayden caught his possible game winning INT but he didn’t, and they lost… The Ravens are 3-1 and Ed Reed hasn’t stepped on the field yet and Mount Cody is still rehabbing his knee. The Steelers are 3-1 and almost went 4-0 without Big Ben… Now things get interesting, how will the team respond to him coming back and taking command?

The Bengals lost to the Browns… T.O. had 10 for 220 and a TD. Carson Palmer played better but he needs to step it up. What happened to the Bengals’ D? They obviously miss their run game from a year ago.

The Colts lost on a last second 59/60 yrd FG. The Jags are 1 of the many inconsistent teams in the NFL. I do have to say that Gerrards possible game losing INT was not as bad as some on TV have made it seem. If he took a sack they are way out of FG range, if it’s intentional grounding same thing. He had to throw the ball and he was falling backwards. He probably should have 1 hopped it though.

The Bears got killed by the Giants. The Giants D Line beat down Jay Cutler who had a concussion by halftime…

The Patriots killed the Dolphins in the 2nd half of their game with blocked kicks, kick returns, INTs, etc. Randy Moss had 0 catches… Chad Henne clearly isn’t as good as everyone on TV has been saying.

The Titans lost to the Broncos by not fielding a kickoff… No it wasn’t an onside kick…

Other Games:
Saints beat the Panthers
Jets beat the Bills
Texans beat the Raiders
Chargers beat down the Cardinals
Rams beat the Seahawks
Packers beat the Lions

Idle:
Boys
Chiefs
Vikes
Bucs

ESPN Power Ranking Issues:
1. Steelers; They lose and remain on top because they get Ben back?
4. Jets; They beat the Bills…
5. Falcons; Really? See above
10. Chiefs; Stop…

Next Week:
Packers @ Skins
Giants @ Texans
Titans @ Boys
Vikes @ Jets

I will refrain from adding fantasy scores this week. Not because Trey requested it but because I don't have different names for everyone this week.

Interesting per-capita rate of NFL player

The two biggest states in America are also the two biggest producers of NFL talent. A recent study on which states have the most former high school football players in the NFL revealed, unsurprisingly, that California and Texas are the best producers of talent, with Florida close behind.

The most impressive showing is by Louisiana, which ranked 25th in total population but has the sixth-most high school players in the NFL. The Pelican State has the highest per-capita rate of NFL players (1 in 65,720) followed by Mississippi (1 in 76,883). By comparison, California's rate is 1 in 175,163.

There's an obvious correlation between high total populations and high NFL player totals. Seven of the top 10 biggest states also are in the top 10 of the list above. Somewhat surprisingly, New York is the biggest exception. The third-most populous state isn't represented well in the NFL, failing to appear in the top 15 of talent production. A lot of that is due to the fact that 40 percent of residents live in New York City, an area not known to produce football stars. But it's a big state and it's surprising that there isn't enough high school talent to compete with, say, New Jersey.

How Cool is Pres Obama... He Bumps Nas!!!!

Who knew Obama bump'd Nasty Nas aka "God's Son", I wonder which Nas track he has on rotation... **dream bubble** "black zombies" or maybe "tick tock" shout out to Alchemist on that sick beat!!!!

What music have you been listening to lately? What have you discovered, what speaks to you these days?

My iPod now has about 2,000 songs, and it is a source of great pleasure to me. I am probably still more heavily weighted toward the music of my childhood than I am the new stuff. There's still a lot of Stevie Wonder, a lot of Bob Dylan, a lot of Rolling Stones, a lot of R&B, a lot of Miles Davis and John Coltrane. Those are the old standards.

A lot of classical music. I'm not a big opera buff in terms of going to opera, but there are days where Maria Callas is exactly what I need.

Thanks to Reggie [Love, the president's personal aide], my rap palate has greatly improved. Jay-Z used to be sort of what predominated, but now I've got a little Nas and a little Lil Wayne and some other stuff, but I would not claim to be an expert. Malia and Sasha are now getting old enough to where they start hipping me to things. Music is still a great source of joy and occasional solace in the midst of what can be some difficult days.

NFL Week 3 Recap

Boys handled the Texans. The Cowboys proved they aren’t as dysfunctional as a lot of people thought and the Texans proved they are still the same inconsistent team they have been under Gary Kubiak for the past 3 years. I have to give credit to R Williams, he’s still a bust but after 2 years he finally had his breakout game as a Cowboy. When he’s consistent I’ll stop criticizing. How will the Texans deal with A Johnson’s ankle? They don’t have a bye until week 7.

Eagles destroyed the Jags. Mike Vick continues to ball, he is a top 10 QB and that is a conservative statement. Who is playing better than him? Not 10 QBs. J Maclin is playing better than even I thought he would. The yards aren’t there but he is vulturing DJ’s TDs just like McGahee did to Ray Rice last year. If the O-Line can get it together this team could be really dangerous. Even Ace Wilson was surprised by Vick’s play. ESPN has the Eagles ranked 14... I know I'm biased, but there are 13 teams better than the Eagles? The Titans, Bengals and Dolphins are among them? Chiald Please!

The Ravens beat the Browns, only reason this is up here is because Anquan Boldin was ballin… 3 TDs, 142 Yds. Ace said it’s not week 4 yet, that’s when he says Boldin gets hurt.

The Saints lost to the Falcons. Trey called this one. The Saints had 1st & Goal in OT and they decided to kick the FG, promptly missed and the Falcons ran down the field and scored. The Saints kept the Falcons in the game with their turnovers. I’m not impressed by Matt Ryan, Does M Turner want to play football?

The Steelers won again, beating the Bucs to go 3-0 without Big Ben. T Polomalu is making a play for MVP. How dangerous could this team be with Big Ben? How long will it take him to get back into the groove? Josh Freeman is quitely having a good second year… The Bucs are 2-1.

Didn’t see the Packers v Bears game due to work, but the Bears won. From the highlights the Packers gave the game away in stupid penalties and a late fumble. I did pick the Bears to make the playoffs though…

The Seahawks beat the Chargers. I don’t remember where I heard it but Charlie Whitehurts, the Seahawks backup QB, has been P Rivers backup for 3 years. Obvious that gave Pete Carroll an advantage but it didn’t keep his team from trying to let the Charges comeback and win. Both teams are inconsistent. Where would the Chargers be with VJ and without the “Lord Of No Rings” AJ Smith?

The Jets beat the Dolphins in another game I didn’t see. B Marshall had his breakout game (R Williams take note; 3 games, not your 3rd season) but he couldn’t beat double coverage in the end zone at the end of the game. Sanchez looks better but still almost lost the game.

Other Games:
Colts beat Broncos
Patriots beat the Bills
Bengals beat the Panthers, Carson is still a bum
Titans beat Giants, when is Coughlin getting fired?
Chiefs beat the 49ers, what’s up with that team?
Vikings beat the Lions
Rams beat the Skins
Cardinals beat Raiders

Week 4:
McNabb returns to Philly, he doesn’t have the weapons…
Ravens v Steelers, we’ll find out how good the Steelers are

Fantasy Recap:
Maximus Decimus Meridius 3-0
Auckland 1-2 (beat by Babies & Backrubs)
Babies & Backrubs 2-1
Damn, Vick does look good 1-2 (Lost by 1.18)
Wearin Vick Jersey to Work 1-2
I Go to Tucson 1-2 (beat by Maxiums Decimus Meridius)

Interesting take on Mike Vick version 2.0

Seen on Football Outsiders (http://www.footballoutsiders.com/cover-3/2010/cover-2-simple-lessons). Not up on those guys, sad really, they do good work.

Michael Vick, and the Clear Picture

The Friday night segments on SIRIUS NFL Radio with Adam Caplan and Jon Hansen should be required listening for any fantasy football junkie. When Greg Cosell, producer of ESPN's NFL Matchup and NFL Films game tape maven, jumps on for his spot to talk Xs and Os, the show is even more indispensable. Last season, I remember hearing Cosell make a startling prediction on that show that by the 2011 season, Michael Vick could very well be the Eagles' full-time starting quarterback. This was back when Vick was little more than a quick option whenever Philly's coaching staff wanted to get "creative" in a bad way. But as it turned out, Cosell was on point and ahead of just about everyone. With that in mind, I got him on the phone to find out what he thought of the team's decision to put the Kevin Kolb Evolution Project aside in favor of a guy who has been playing out of his mind so far this season.

What I've seen from Vick this season is a highly evolved version of the guy who used to run around the Georgia Dome and would sometimes resemble a traditional quarterback in just by his jersey number. The misplaced option quarterback wasn't a part of the new scheme. Now the Eagles' offense is about Vick being able to make consistent throws and running when the opportunity presented itself. There was a flash of this when he hit Celek deep over the middle early in the fourth quarter of Philadelphia's Week 1 loss to the Packers and another when he hit Jeremy Maclin at the end of that drive for a 19-yard touchdown. The Brent Celek pass was as pretty as it gets -- Vick dropped the deep ball to his tight end right on the money in the middle of three Green Bay defenders. And the Maclin pass was a low laser in the end zone. Those who are dismissing Vick's current standing as the result of a UFL-level Detroit defense should take a step back and watch what he did against 2009's fourth-best pass defense, and the second-best through two weeks in 2010.

After the decision was made, I tweeted that I believed the successful developmental project in Philadelphia wasn't Kolb -- it was Vick. Is it silly to say that a 30-year-old quarterback is a work in progress? Not under these circumstances, and Cosell agreed. He took it a step further by explaining his take on the roots of the decision.

"I believe this has more to do with Kevin Kolb than Michael Vick," Cosell said. "Kolb played so poorly through the preseason and in his first half of regular-season action, he almost could not compete -- you almost could not put him out there. I think that's why the decision was made. I was incredibly surprised at how poorly he played, because I went through his two starts last year, and I thought he looked like a poised, composed, decisive, accurate, aware quarterback. I had no qualms whatsoever in believing that Kolb would have a very solid season. But he looked like a rookie quarterback who was overwhelmed and overmatched."

As he so often does, Cosell put the situation most accurately in a single sentence: "Kolb was not getting a clear picture out there." To my less-informed eye, this had a great deal to do with the line's inability to pick up and adjust protections. I mentioned in the Suh portion of this article how the Eagles would sent Celek off line on plays that seemed as though they were designed to develop over time, despite the fact that the Lions were altering their blitz concepts. On other occasions, Detroit defenders were able to slip through gaps in unusually easy ways. I think that Vick was seeing the picture because he'd seen these types of things before, while Kolb was not used to the breakdowns.

The story that's lost in all the controversy is how well the Eagles' coaching staff has prepared Vick to do the little things all great quarterbacks do, and how well they transitioned their expectations from the quarterback who was falling out of step to the guy with the hot hand. Was this the first time Vick has received functional NFL coaching? Cosell said that it was, and it showed against the Lions.

"I thought Vick played the best game of his NFL career," he said. "Michael Vick was not a great quarterback in Atlanta -- he was a SportsCenter quarterback. Nobody in the NFL is a great quarterback because of the way they run. And in this game, there were opportunities where he could have run in response to pressure, and he did not. Perhaps the best example I can remember was the third-and-9 play in the second quarter, where he spun away from an unblocked defender to his right as the defender came from his blind side. He actually stopped, set his feet, and threw the ball to Riley Cooper. I mean, that was NFL quarterbacking. There was space in front of him, and the old Vick would have run. That may have been the single most interesting play that spoke to the new Vick. I'm not one who likes to make bold judgments based on one game, but he played the position the way it needs to be played to be consistent in the NFL."

The throw to Cooper came with 6:08 left in the first half. The Eagles went shotgun, twins tight on either side. Cooper ran upfield from the top of the right flank, and Vick had to bail out almost immediately after the snap as cornerback Alphonso Smith shot off the right edge, completely unblocked. This wasn't a "stop-drop-and-roll" kind of thing; Vick escaped to his right and didn't run at all. He eluded that tackle and immediately went back to reading his progressions. When I saw this, I understood why Cosell was so impressed.

The play that convinced me I was seeing a different Vick was the long sideline pass to Jackson with 9:21 left in the third quarter. This play was impressive because Vick escaped pressure after yet another protection breakdown and kept his eyes downfield while he was running. He saw Jackson open about 20 yards downfield, and he made the accurate throw.

"That's a critical element here," Cosell said. "Now, he's moving to pass, and not moving to run. That's a very important distinction. Even the long throw to Jackson on the two-minute drive, where he also stopped ... he had to get rid of that ball a little quicker because of pressure, but he still stopped and set his feet. That was a big-time throw, as well. Even the touchdown to Jeremy Maclin -- if I'm not mistaken, that was a zero-coverage blitz, and there was pressure he could see coming up the middle. But he stood in there and stepped into this throw. When have we ever said before that Michael Vick would look down the gun barrel and make throws?"

We haven't, and that's precisely because Vick was never asked to before. It was always my impression that, whatever they might say to the contrary, then-Falcons head coach Jim Mora and offensive coordinator Greg Knapp were rolling out game plans that could have been written on bar napkins and asking Vick to make up the difference. Andy Reid and Marty Mornhinweg have taken the more balanced and evolutionary approach. While I would absolutely agree with those who see potential landmines all over the actual decision-making process, I can't do anything but praise the way the team has prepared Vick for this unexpected (to everyone but Cosell, apparently) second chance.

NFL Recap Week 2

The Boys got upstaged at home by Cutler throwing to his RB, TE and Former DB from the U. Devin Hester made a ridiculous catch, he may not be a #1 WR but he’s showing development. Greg Olson, the U, showed what he can do when he gets a chance. Matt Forte continued to do more as a receiver than a runner, including catching a TD on a mini fade route. I continue to say the Boys would be better off with Michael Oher than Roy Williams. But even more than that the Cowboys need leadership on both sides of the ball. There is no leader or potential leader on offense, Barber seems to be too quiet and doesn’t have a large enough roll (Garret’s fault). DeMarcus should be the leader on defense, he is the best player and highest paid on the team. That has been 1 of 2 knocks, in my opinion, on DeMarcus for the past couple of years. The other being he seems so quiet. 0-2, this could get ugly real quick…

The 49ers look like they may be the best 0-2 team in the NFL after last night. They played the Saints down to the wire and if they ran some more time off the clock they may have made it to overtime. The Saints are playing the same as last year, not blowing teams out but finding a way to win. Reggie Bush fractured his leg, looks like he’s out for 6 weeks… The 49ers are @KC, @ATL then home for Philly and the Raiders. 3-3 or 4-2 for this team if they keep it together.

Randy Moss burned Derelle Revis for a TD but the Jets won. Sanchez actually looked more like an NFL QB, but we’ll see, the Pats aren’t exactly known for their D at this point. Shonn Greene continues to dissappoint. Tom Brady looked off the whole game, Welker dissappeared. Cromartie and J Taylor had a couple big plays.

Texans beat the Skins in overtime. Schaub, 497 yards passing w/3 TDs, A Johnson was balling. McNabb and Portis had the Skins in position to win but the D couldn’t stop Johnson when it counted. McNabb is back to making has beens and nobodies (exclude S Moss, C Cooley) look good, 425 yards and a TD. DeAngelo Hall said he should cover the opposing team’s best WR, asked what D Coordinator Jim Haslett might this, “It don't matter what he say. This is my team. This is my defense.” He did score the only TD against the Cowboys and the other DBs clearly weren’t stopping Andre Johnson… He might have a point, but damn dude!

Vick, 284 yards and 2 TDs, 105.5 rating. Vick has come out and said he has no problem being the backup, judging from last week’s post game comments I’d say the Eagles gave him a script right after the game. The Eagles D almost allowed the Lions to come back and win the game. A UF WR on the hands team is especially to blame since he let the ball bounce off his chest. Jahvid Best is ballin, his YPC isn’t great but he is making plays, did Emeka accidentally draft him? The Lions are a couple of plays from being 2-0.

Brett Favre played horrible, worse than last week. The level of criticism does not match his level of play, where are the commentators asking why he wasn’t in training camp or why he didn’t have surgery in the Spring. UF WR Percy Harvin did bat a TD in the air that resulted in an INT. Oh Miami got the win…

The Titans and Steelers played an ugly game. INTs, fumbles, Dixon hurt, VY benched, CJ’s only big run called back. How will the benching impact VY’s confidence? Did Fischer hurt his team’s long term success to try and win 1 game against 1 of the best defenses in the league?

QBs Benched/Hurt (Dixon) in Week 2:

It's Nice... For real!!!!!

I haven't heard Iron Solomon battle someone in a while. This is a sick rap battle of two well known underground rappers; one who had a short-lived rap career ~ E. Ness (from Making of the Band, Walked to Brooklyn to buy Diddy a Cheesecake) and the other with an upcoming rap career Iron Solomon. You can judge for yourself but its pretty clear who won. The punch lines from Iron Solomon are lethal but E. Ness holds his own.

IBM CEO, Sam P. Explains Why They Sold PC Divsion to Lenovo

I always thought that the ThinkPad was one of IBM's superior selling products and could arguably compete in the laptop market with any Apple notebook product but unfortunately IBM Corporate had other plans in mind and they sold it off to Lenovo (and they threw in all the patents/intellectual property with it). I always thought that the demise of IBM's ThinkPad was due to IBM's diminishing desire to market the product. It never appeared in any retail stores (BestBuy, Target, Walmart, hhgreg, i.e.). Anyways here is IBM's CEO (Sam P.) explaining the move.....

Reggie Bush renounces his Heisman Trophy award

http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=Avhx9SI3eGT2ZmDNhd6X7S85nYcB?slug=nfp-20100914_reggie_bush_renounces_his_heisman_trophy_award

Week 1 Recap

The only thing that would have made Vegas better was getting to watch more of these games... This is the best time of the year by far.

Let’s begin with the best game, Ravens v. Jets the hitting that took place in this game was phenomenal and the refs let them play well after the whistle. Maybe someone should spread the secret that one shouln’t talk shit to, about or in the general vicinity of Ray Lewis… He hit Justin Keller so hard he probably cursed Sanchize out, plus that could have impacted his ability to know stick to the ball out for the 1st down which ended the game. Think about it, he looked a little out of it… I thought Ray might lose a step this year but he looked better than last year. Anquan Boldin was ballin, Ace said he’ll be hurt by Week 4… Cromartie was high/low, nice pick, not great, but 3 or 4 interference calls? Best quote by Jemelle Hill, I have to paraphrase “Antonio Cromartie just can’t keep his hands to himself” followed by a look by the mediator and they both started laughing. She said it was unintentional, I replied to her that I don’t care, that was funny and he probably doesn’t read twitter or much of anything. The Jets clearly miss Thomas Jones and Alan Faneca which no one is really talking about. That guy Haloti Ngata ran over to sack Sanchize was supposed to replace him… Just reported Kris Jenkins torn ACL, done for the season... Major blow

Mike Vick proved he should be a starting QB. What’s telling is that the Eagles offensive players were dejected with Kevin Kolb on the field. When Vick stepped on the field there was a visual difference in their demeanor… Stop playing Andy Reid, start Vick. Did you all see him turn that corner… But that hit he unnecessarily took made no sense. He may be trying to prove his AB skills too much, he could have run for a score when he threw to DJ… Aaron Rodgers did not ball as I expected him to… Let’s get that together 1st round fantasy pick! They did win the game though.

LaRon Landry had 17 tackles, I guess someone had to tackle Miles Austin cuz he was ballin out of control unlike the Cowboys O Line… Again a 1st, 3rd and 6th and $49M for Roy Williams… Who was taken 2 picks after the Lions used the Cowboys pick to draft Brandon Pettigrew? Michael Oher… Sandra Bullocks blindside protecting son… Hmm… The Boys defense is legit, but Jason Garrett needs to get slapped. Again T.O. said this was a problem but no one wanted to listen to him. On to the Skins, it’s not like they were impressive on offense but DeAngelo Hall won the game for them. Say what you want about him, but Hall makes plays… Apparently they are trying to trade Haynesworth again.

The Texans beat the Colts for the 2nd time ever… I think Mario Williams wants DPOY. Arian Foster was on the practice squad 12 months ago? 231 yards and 3 TDs. The question is can the Texans keep it up? They have always been inconsistent… If they don’t make the playoffs Gary Kubiak needs to go, I think I said the same thing last year. How is it this guy is allowed to underperform expectations every year and not even feel some heat. Lovie Smith is on the hot seat and his team has no where near the talent and is annually decimated by injuries. I digress… The Colts will be fine.

Lion’s Calvin Johnson got robbed… No need to talk about anything else except the Bear’s Matt Forte, ballin. Early bid for comeback player of the year… He may have to fight Cutler for it though. Forte had the 3rd highest receiving yards in the league, let’s go PPR! 7 rec, 151 yards, 2 TDs, 50 yards rushing. But what’s up with the 2 fumbles, 1 lost? What does this mean for the Bears? Martz doesn’t like to run the ball and it’s cold in the CHI come November…

Didn’t see the Titans beat the Raiders, but CJ had another 100 yard game, VY’s QB rating was 142.8! He threw less than 20 times, but 2 were for 6. Pittsburgh next week, stay away from Troy Vince, you can’t treat him like his fellow Trojan Matt Leinart.

David Garrard showed the Tim Tebow fans in northern Florida why the Jags shouldn’t have drafted him, although that DT no one had ever heard of wasn’t a much better pick. 3 TDs, none of which went to Mike Sims-Walker… That guy gets no respect, he’s not elite but Tim Tebow will never reach his level.

The Patriots beat down the Bengals, but of course that wasn’t the story. TO and Chad Johnson went to the locker room before the end of the half and everyone is acting like it’s a huge deal. Did Carson even get the hail mary pass into the endzone? No! Sometimes I hate ESPN. Chad did ball though… Carson needs to step it up, as does the defense. I reiterate, Wes Welker needs to be tested for HGH. What is wrong with Randy Moss? He’s 34/35 on TV with a doorag, hat, headphones trying to make a serious point? Stop… Am I going to regret drafting him #2? Tom Brady also needs to stop letting his wife dress him and make his haircut decisions…

Someone tell Pete Carrol he’s not in the Pac-10, cuz that’s the kind of beatdown he put on the 49ers… Mike Williams is the front runner for comeback player of the year… Can Hasselbeck stay healthy? Mike Singletary was smiling after the game… You know that’s not a good sign. He called a mandatory meeting after the team returned to SF Sunday night… He called out the O Line, Alex Smith and Michael Crabtree. Accountability, that’s how you win, not beating around the bush and making your team “Romo-friendly”

Who saw the Chiefs beating the Chargers? As Trey said, VJ is sitting at home saying “Pay Me Bitch!” Wasn’t in the mood to watch the game after the great game that preceeded it, how was Rivers blind side protected without Marcus McNeil? He and VJ probably got together and shook their heads…

The Steelers beat the Falcons, didn’t see it so all I’ve read is Dixon doesn’t panic.
The Dolphins barely beat the Bills
The Bucs beat the Browns, I wanted to see Kellen Winslow go “I’m A F**kin Warrior” on his former team. How do you badmouth a guy who got a staph infection from your dirty faciliy?
The Cardinals barely beat the Rams, Breaston had 132 yards though

Week 2 Questions?
Baltimore @ Cincy(who swept them last year), the Bengals start 0-2?
Chicago @ Dallas, who is blocking Julius Peppers?
Patriots @ Jets, hmm… If one confuse the best USC QB in week 1, what do you do to the 3rd best USC QB in the league week 2? (Carson, Cassel, Sanchize………. Leinart, if they still claim him)
Eagles @ Lions, who starts? Reid will probably/should punk out and say he wants to make sure Kolb is ok and have him sit some more (Did you see what Suh did to Delhomme?)
Texans @ Skins, Skins O-Cord knows the Texans offensive to a T… Which O-Cord gives the best scouting report?

I'll try to shorten next week...

Crazy Man Shot By LAPD

Manuel Jaminez a 37 year old construction worker from Guatemala was brandishing a knife and threatening people. He then threatened police.

Apparently he wouldn't put the knife down so the police shot him. I don't see the problem. At a town hall meeting one person asked why they couldn't disarm him? Another asked why the officer hasn't been suspended? An officer responded that the LAPD doesn't teach officers to take knives from people.

I think the LAPD was in the right, I haven't said that too many times. Officers already risk their lives, why should they try and take a knife from a threatening individual? People have unrealistic expectations. And no the officer shouldn't be suspended.

My Thoughts on Mexico & Drug Cartel's

Is Mexico a failed state? No, but it's not a sovereign nation. President Felipe Calderon is not in charge.

What should be done?

Legalize marijuana, it provides a lot of money to the cartels. Consider how many people smoke weed compared to users of cocaine, crack, heroin or meth. Not only would legalizing marijuana weaken the cartels, it would raise tax revenue, employ Americans and reduce the trade deficit. I know our first Black president shouldn't be the one to legalize marijuana, but it might be for the greater good. California is an interesting test case.

Let the military and CIA loose. The Bush Doctrine is almost a decade old, according to it we, The United States of America, have the right to invade a country which harbors terrorists and/or intend to do us harm. Mexico may not harbor terrorists the way Saudi Arabia and Iran do, (yes the Saudi's harbor and support terrorists) however because the level of corruption has not been reduced to an "acceptable" level, say that of the United States government, Mexico is allowing this to happen. Obviously getting Mexico's permission would be a better approach, but what are they really going to do? I would turn northern Mexico into a war zone, who am I kidding, it is a war zone. I would authorized drones to carry weapons and kill drug smugglers. The heads of cartels would come up missing or dead. They may disappear or there house may be flattened while they are sleeping. Do these people have families? Yes. Unfortunately sometimes one must pay for the sins of their father. No one wants to see a child killed because of their parent, but what's worse the child of a cartel member killed or a drug addict's child killed or better yet a random child killed due to drug violence?

Shut the border down. All the way. I want a demilitarized zone just like N Korea and S Korea have. 10 miles, no one is allowed in or out. Enter at your own risk, troops have orders to shoot first. This would be expensive, but cheaper than fighting the "War on Drugs" which clearly isn't working. I understand a legal system in which you are innocent until proven guilty, but when it comes to drug dealers I say screw em, don't waste time trying to build a case and let them buy judges and juries. Just get rid of them, the world would be a better place. Who should be allowed to make that decision? Not the President, he can't directly have blood on his hands. The head of the CIA or a military commander will do.

What happens after you shut down the border? Smugglers go to air and sea. Fine, any boat not registered in the US must be searched before it can come within 20 miles of the US. We have the largest navy and the 2 largest air forces in the world. 1 US Air Force, 2 US Navy. Forget putting ships off N Korea, they can operate on both sides of Mexico, in the Pacific and in the Gulf.

It's time to stop treating Mexico as if they are a sovereign nation or our ally. They're neither. Let's be real Mexico is the next Israel. They annually receive large amounts of aid and bitch and moan when we do something they don't like. The reason "Pres" Calderon criticized SB 1070 is because he wants to make sure the billions of dollars illegal immigrants pump into Mexico's economy keep coming. He can go to hell for all I care. Next thing you know Mexico will have a PAC telling the President what to do if he wants any shot at reelection.

After the flow of drugs is reduced we can focus on our own drug dealers. Give those fools 10K sq miles in Montana and let them kill each other. I really don't care whether they are street dealers or kingpins, life in Hard Knocks Federal Pen, location middle of nowhere Montana. No more controlling your drug territory from inside or ordering hits on people. You go for life, no contact with the outside world. Don't worry about the cost, all I need is a gun line and some rednecks, you know they'll shoot anybody trying to escape, I guess we need someone to shoot the incarcerated Rednecks too. I don't really care if they shoot people just thinking about escaping. Don't provide anything, drop em off and leave.

Ok I digress the last paragraph is unconstitutional. But I would like to turn the CIA on American drug dealers and take them out. Now that the President must sign off on. Drug dealers and gang members need to methodically disappear. Who will ask questions, their family members? They go to the news, "we've noticed that a lot of our family members have disappeared with no explanation." News, "what did they all have in common?" Fam, "we don't know." News, "well we've discovered they are all drug dealers." Fam, "what difference does that make." News, "the American public doesn't care." Drug dealers are American Terrorists making this constitutional.

Six Figure Salary Gap Amongst African Americans

When I read this article I was shocked that only 3.3% of African Americans earning six-figure salaries; and that much of the short fall is due to educational achievements. Which probes me to find out how much more do Africans get paid in certain professions relative to White Americans. I mean, I am under the assumption that African Americans who hold doctorate degrees particularly in the technology field should be making six-figures at the minimum. Now I am beginning to realize that African Americans holding advanced degrees are being slighted. For instance, recently this guy from Cameroon holding a PhD from Morgan State left international business machines to go to Fujitsu. The reason he left said company after contributing 4 patents was because he never received a promotion since he joined the company and had not been making six-figures to begin with (the compensation/benefits & stock options does not add-up to six-figures either). I would like to hear your opinion on this and how do you overcome being under-valued in this climate... BTW, here's the article: Six-Figure Salary Gap
