Fox News' Bill O'Reilly Backs Public Option?

I have always stopped short of calling Bill O'Reilly a complete hack on the level of Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh but this is very surprising.

O'REILLY: The public option now is done. We discussed this, it's not going to happen. But you say that this little marketplace that they're going to set up, whereby the federal government would subsidize insurance for some Americans, that is, in your opinion, a public option?

OWCHARENKO: Well, it has massive new federal regulation. So you don't necessarily need a public option if the federal government is going to control and regulate the type of health insurance that Americans can buy.
O'REILLY: But you know, I want that, Ms. Owcharenko. I want that. I want, not for personally for me, but for working Americans, to have a option, that if they don't like their health insurance, if it's too expensive, they can't afford it, if the government can cobble together a cheaper insurance policy that gives the same benefits, I see that as a plus for the folks.

Ohio district cancells all sports and extra-cirrcular activities due to economy

http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/andy_staples/09/16/nosports/index.html

From the article: "Mayers no longer has a team because the South-Western City School Board (the district includes four high schools: Central Crossing, Grove City, Franklin Heights and Westland) took the unprecedented step of canceling all extra-curricular activities after voters failed to pass an operating levy Aug. 4. Now, the four high schools in Ohio's sixth-largest school district have no sports, no bands, no drama productions and no student council."

So i can understand and actually applaud not having the atheletic fee because it would penalize lower income students. Reading the article, this still feels like a way to use the students as a ploy to generate more school funds...

redskins name under attack

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4474771

this is probably the most offensive name in all of sports. actually i see very little problem with names like the seminoles, utes, illini, braves, warriors, etc (i have a problem with the over-the-top stereotypical portrayal of them as savages when they are acted out as mascots)... overall without the antics these are group of people but are not offensive (i think). warriors is like knights or cowboys. apaches is more like spartans, irish, celtics, trojans, etc.... to me those makes sense i think. but a formerly defamatory word is not acceptable. they can cry historical significance all they want but i always thought this was strange.

the term redskin is believed to have been originated on the basis of color analogous to way african americans are called black and caucasians are called white. but some historians believe the term redskin dates back to white settlers carrying/referring to the bloody skins of killed native americans.

Week 1 Recap

Week 1 thoughts:

Let's start with the Cowboys, does anyone other than Ace and Skip Bayless believe the Boys are better without TO after 1 game against a rebuilding team with a bad secondary? They look good, but let's be real the long TDs were all a result of missed tackles, not even broken tackles. Also the defense struggled against a unit that fired their coordinator last week. From the surface it looks like a new year with the same look, start out hot in September.... Come see me in December. Actually next week will be a big test for the Cowboys. From what I remember TO usually got off against the Giants in home games.... Oh Roy Williams smirking comment about how Romo had his most passing yards ever without TO.... chiald please. Roy Williams will never be the WR TO was. Just because he worked out in the offseason for the first time ever he isn't going to morph into an elite receiver. He definitely isn't worth his contract.

What's going on in Houston? Didn't see the game cuz I watched the redzone channel (Emeka). But damn they seemed flat from what I saw. Ok this team was bullshittin, how did they not score a single offensive point? the PAT doesn't count. Matt Schaub? Andre Johnson? They played the Jets, who are improved but damn. They cost me my fantasy win.

Matt Stafford sucks. I drafted Calvin Johnson when Culpepper was expected to start. All that talk about how he had command of the huddle is now gone... He needs to step it up cuz he is fucking up my team and quite honestly fantasy football is more important than the Lions season.

What's up with the Cardinals? Kurt Warner looks like he has returned to his 2007 aka normal form. Injury/sack/int/fumble prone. Who think Matt Leinert will get a shot at some point?

Drew Brees treated the Lions like a college scout team. 6 TDs... Reggie Bush couldn't do anything against the Lions... not a good sign.

How did the following happen:
The Bills come from ahead to lose to the Patriots because their return man, Leodis McKelvin, got a little too greedy and didn't go down to protect the lead. They had Brady on the ropes but their offense couldn't do their part. Trent Edwards didn't look comfortable, I guess not having a real line will do that. Still, up 11 with a few minutes to go there is no excuse for not closing this out.

The Bengals lose to the Broncos with on a freak long TD with less than a minute left. Has to be a deflating loss, but they were bullshittin for 3.5 quarters on offense. From what I read (again watched redzone channel, Emeka) Coles had at least 2 drops on 3rd down... Not looking good, but from what I saw the defense at least looked energized, they were ranked 10th last year.

The Raiders just couldn't hold on to their lead. They had it... JaMarcus played a pretty good but the Chargers are dangerous. The call to take away the TD pass in the second half was bullshit. The receiver established control before he was anywhere near the ground. Bullshit call. I'm not calling conspiracy like Al Davis though. LT is done, he needs to stop talking about how he is still the best. He was on the sideline at the end of the game and his team was on offense.

Jay Cutler and his WRs need to spend a lot more time together. The Bears offense looked horrible and Matt Forte wasn't gettin it done. The Packers were supposed to be an offensive juggernaut... hmm... Maybe next week. The Packers defense showed that they are still dangerous. Jay Cutler helped them with that but for a team that switched to 3-4 they look legit.

Jake De'fuckin'helomme. Please see the April 21, 2009 post in which I questioned the Panthers for giving this guy a $40M
extension. The coach hedged his answer when asked if he is still behind Delhomme, Steve Smith said the decision to stick with him was above his pay grade. I have the answer. Turn and hand the ball to DeAngelo Williams, he happens to be on my fantasy team. In reality Delhomme could rebound, but I wouldn't be surprised if he gets benched.

Did the following teams have a preseason?
Texans
How does Gary Kubiak still have a job?
Redskins
Stop blaming everything on Jason Campbell like QB is the missing link...
Panthers
Cardinals
Ravens D
They let the Chiefs put up a lot of points in Baltimore.... Not a good sign.

I almost posted this before the Monday night games....

jordan's hall of fame speech

http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=jordan+hall+of+fame+speech&search_type=&aq=f

jordan has been accused of being petty in his speech (having a chip on his shoulder). I thought it was perfect and ya'll know i grew up knicks fan. I just wish he would have added that he got dunked on by starks....

he mentioned riley, pippen, starks, jordan stoppers, van gundy, his tarheel alums, byron russell, doug collins, being hard on his teammates, media naysayers, and being "frozen out by magic, the iceman, and zeke". i had no idea what this was about but maybe this is what folks are calling petty.

i thought the fire metaphor was fitting... its is funny though he thinks he can still play. i don't think he can come off the bench today.... can he really run with these dudes today (regular dude like rudy gay will torch him)....it will be interesting to see other players interact with him and take it easy on him out of awe.
