bill simmons at it again with bulls celts

i think this dude has my dream job...writing about sports but tying in pop culture....
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/090501&sportCat=nba

anyway more good points

"Two and a half minutes left and we have the ball. Again, they can't stop us. So Doc brings in our worst player -- our least intelligent player, our most ineffective player, the master of the fantastic drive/missed layup -- and takes out Big Baby when he was our second-best player tonight? And all because Chicago went small? SO WE'RE REACTING TO A DESPERATION COACHING MOVE BY VINNY DEL NEGRO!!!!! REALLY, THAT'S WHAT WE DID?????????"

i like tony allen....he was money before he dunked the ball after the whistle and blew out his knee to further reiterate his 'our least intelligent player' point "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Le8rMnL56w8&feature=related. very unfortunate...dude was on his way

"The great Ray Allen became a minus-130 favorite in the "Reggie Miller versus Ray Allen" argument and might have to change his name to "The Great Ray Allen."

dude i was just having this argument at lunch....i don't know....i like to think reggie is the second best SG I HAVE SEEN PLAY. but i like ray allen more off the dribble....i still would go to reggie down three before ray but it is very, very, very, very close....its a toss up.

"then a WNBA player dunked on Paul Pierce"
"When Noah stole the ball from Pierce and dunked on him, I threw a tantrum like a little kid. I screamed out a slew of F-bombs. I ran outside my house and screamed some more. How could the 2008 Finals MVP commit such a dumb foul? He had five! Didn't he know he had five???? And what's worse than a Jo-No celebration at the expense of your own team? I screamed and screamed and screamed. That play ripped my heart out."

this is why i love noah....he is probably the most annoying guy ever but i would have him on my team any day....he knows how to win and how to lead (UF will do that for you...ask TIM TEBOW another annnoying WINNER and leader that does not necessarily have stellar skills)....i recall peopl getting mad with him a year back win he was a rookie demanding that his team was a soft bunch of quitters that didn't knwo how to win and then said basically i am not use to being a loser...peopl thought he was out of line because he was a rookie....well where are those peopl at now after he straight humiliated the 2008 championship MVP (kinda reminds me of horford last year barking at pierce after hitting that jumper to force game 5 or 7 in boston i think...even though he lost and noah may lose i would love to see that out of my teammates) . noah will never be great (maybe good is within reach) but there is a difference (not tangibly but intangibly) between he and verajoa....i would take the side show bob version in chicago..... paul was hoping that noah as a lanky big man would kicked the ball off his foot only to end up with it on his dome piece....he used to do this all the time at UF

Who Else Is Tired of Kona?

I am tired of going to Kona for happy hour. I know it's close to the office and some of us (really just Emeka) know the bartenders so we get good deals. But even as an extreme creature of habit I recognize it's time to branch out.

Pros
Proximity to work
Proximity to the office
Relationship with Bartenders
Proximity to Z Tejas

Cons
Proximity to work (I like to leave most work relationships at work)
Scenery (nonexistant lately)
It's at the mall
There happy hour menu isn't even good

Suggestions
Tempe Marketplace
North Scottsdale
The "Canal" (whatever they call that strip of man-made water in Old Town)

The Contra code...

Looks like somebody planted a trick on the ESPN page yesterday (Kotaku)

Input the contra code onto this cache'd page [here], press enter a bunch of times and magic happens

This made my day, i wish i'd thought of doing that yesterday.

Ron Artest is Tripping

If you missed Inside the NBA last night, the interview with Ron Artest was hilarious. See link. Basically, Artest said that Brandon Roy was the best player he's ever played against (except for some guy who is now in jail)... better than Kobe and Lebron. Then he said that Charles Barkley was overrated and that Michael Jordan said he wished he coulda played against Artest when MJ was in his prime. Barkley, Kenny and CWebb's reactions were priceless...

Here's the whole show in better quality... it's towards the end (forward to 23:30). Has more reaction. http://www.nba.com/video/channels/tnt_overtime/2009/04/29/nba_20090429_insidenba.nba/index.html

Is the phrase "pour out a little liquor" a black thing?

I ask after this conversation i had with a white co-worker yesterday. Here it goes:

Coworker: "sad news in the base community, they tore down my very first antenna...940 ft...sniff sniff"
Me: "doggone shame, such a source of joy for so many people. I'mma go to the closet and pour out a little liquor in it's memory"
C: "hehehehehehe, cheers"
M: (realizing, oh snap, she might have not gotten the phrase): "Nah, i'm not drinking it, i'm pouring it on the ground in memory of the deceased"
C: "wow, hehehehehehe, nice"

KG didn't cross the line

though this is funny, evidently he yelled "choke" @ Brad Miller last night after that fool missed the wide-open layup followed by the free-throws.

hahahahahaha

58????

Your New Orleans Hornets, down 2-1, in a must win game at HOME, led by all-world point guard, CP3, regarded by some as the 3rd greatest point guard of all time (clearly Trey, Chase and Emeka are smoking crack), go out and lose by 58 points (121-63) to the Denver Nuggets. Not the Dream Team... not the Lakers or Cavs... but the lowly Denver Nuggets. That ties for the biggest loss in playoff history and is the biggest playoff loss in history at HOME. Wouldn't UNC put up a better fight than this?

FYI, your boy CP3 had 4 points and 6 turnovers in 36 minutes of "play". Oh and he is also responsible for getting Byron Scott fired this offseason. Yes, that is happening after this embarassment. I think it is clear that CP3 is just another good player out there. I'd rather take Chauncey at this point.

58????????????? I'm still tripping... 58?!?!?!?!?! At Home????? I mean getting beat by 30 is an ass-whoping... now double that. Crazy!!!!!

What Charles Barkley and Kenny Smith just talked about

They were having a discussion on the enigma that is ?F Lamar Odom (position in question after last week's SF argument).

Question: What other team in the NBA would Lamar Odom be unquestionably the 3rd best player?

Answer (on the show): None..
My Answer: Maybe Boston, but that's really hard to say next year unless this "playoff" Rando turns out to be the real thing (Doubtful)

NFL Draft Recap.... The real grades

ESPN, Mel Kiper Jr specifically, graded all of the teams. While I'm not going to do that I will comment on what stands out as the best/worst.....

NY Jets (ESPN grade: A-)
My grade (D)
The Jets traded up to get Mark Sanchez and a RB, Shonn Greene. While the Jets didn't have to give up a lot to get him, this guy is a product of the combine. No one was high on Mark Sanchez until after the combine. I don't know anything about Shonn Greene, but the Jets already have Thomas Jones and Lamont Jordan. This grade is pretty much solely pulled down to a D because I doubt Sanchez will pan out and they are going to have to pay him regardless.

49ers (ESPN grade: B+)
My grade (Luckiest team in the draft)
Michael Crabtree fell to #10 and not because Al Davis is crazy and picked Heyward-Bey, because reports were that he would have picked Maclin over Crabtree anyway. Crabtree fell because other higher up teams went elsewhere. They also picked up Glen Coffee, a RB to take pressure off of Frank Gore.

Ravens (B)
My grade (B-)
Didn't draft a WR? But Ozzie Newsome has a pretty good track record and they did pick up one of the top tackles in the draft. Maybe they make a play for Plax if he doesn't go to prison..... But this is definitely a concern, Derrick Mason should not be your go to receiver at this point in his career.

Bengals (B)
My grade (B)
The Bengals did a good job of addressing their obvious needs, although I'm not sure why you take Andre Smith when there are other tackles with less questions about maturity. But if he can keep Carson upright everybody on ESPN can get back to jocking the great QB on a team with too many issues.

Seahawks (B)
My grade (A)
I give the Seahwaks an A based on relativity, because they didn't lose their damn minds just because they had a high draft pick. Aaron Curry is willing to take a discounted deal even though he is a top 5 pick. All reports say there isn't much of a chance of him being a bust. I am giving the Hawks credit for not drafting Sanchez as many people suggested and taking one of the best two players in the draft.

Bucs(B)
My grade (B+)
I am giving the Bucs an A because they got the QB they wanted without giving up a lot and they won't have to pay him $40M guaranteed (Stafford) or $30M (Sanchez). Yes he is a "project" but drafting a QB is less than 50/50 so they at least didn't tie up a lot of money in Josh Freeman.

Lions (B-)
My grade (D)
I give them a D because they could have picked Aaron Curry or a left tackle. Both picks are much safer and less expensive than a QB who will probably fail, if not on his own, due to the lack of talent in Detroit to help him. If I were a Lions fan I would have liked to see them trade down a few spots to pick up Curry and then trade up with their second first round pick (compliments of Jerry Jones) to get one of the 3 top tackles in the draft. But they still could have drafted Michael Oher who went to the Ravens 2 picks after the Lions picked a TE from Oklahoma State.....

Cowboys (D)
My grade (F)
The Cowboys might as well have traded all their picks for 2010 draft picks. No impact players. So to review the Cowboys trade a 1st and 3rd to get Roy Williams and then cut TO, then trade back in this years draft.... Jimmy Johnson is laughing his ass off right now.

Raiders (D)
My grade (F)
Al Davis gets this for drafting a late first round or high second round WR at #7. Now he has to pay Heyward-Bey like a #7 pick. He missed the opportunity to trade down to the bottom 3rd of the first round and probably have another second round pick this year and still get his guy.
