Time to retire the football helmet?

http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748704402404574527881984299454.html

Article basically goes into the slippery slope that players wouldn't use their bodies and heads as tackle-seeking missles if there were no helmets & less pads. Sure, I understand the concept of moral hazards enabling riskier behavoirs but this seems a lil' much.

Joe Lieberman Shut Down on the Senate Floor

Sen Joe Lieberman, the 1 person most responsible for screwing up the Senate Healthcare Bill, was not granted more time to speak which is apparently customary on the Senate floor. Freshman Senator Al Franken said nope... There is no official word if this is the beginning of the Democrat's retaliation, either way he deserves it.

Lieberman 3 months was ok with allowing the public to buy into medicare at age 55 instead of age 65. Then last week he changed his mind. Everyone had agreed and the bill was pretty much done, then this little piece of shit changed his mind. He sighted the enthusiasm of liberals as his reasoning for changing his position. Joe Lieberman is a douchebag, he got reelected as an Independent which is not a problem. But then he held the Democrats hostage by stating that he wouldn't vote with them unless he could keep his chairmanship, something he's not entitled to as he left the party. Now he has his chairmanship and he is pulling this shit? If I lived in Connecticut I would try and get him impeached. As an Independent I don't think this is how he should be acting, I don't really like the deal cutting to begin with but if you are going to do it you can't renig...

Healthcare stocks have doubled recently... Thanks Joe, that means healthcare costs are going to continue to rise. Someone should take him out behind the capital and beat his ass.

Week 14 Recap

The Bengals showed many flaws against the Vikings. They seemed to run when they should pass and pass when they should run. Carson Palmer made some suspect decisions. The defense played well but the Bengals haven't been able to capitalize on potential turnovers, INTs in particular. The Bengals probably won't get a first round bye and need to figure some things out or they will be bounced in the first round. The Vikings looked like they bounced back however Brett Favre is starting to look old.

The Cardinals continued their inconsistent play in losing to the 49ers. Kurt Warner had one of those games that makes you wonder if he should really be in the Hall of Fame. I don't see this team getting close to the Super Bowl again, but if they click they are dangerous.

The Cowboys continued to lose in December as the Chargers played an ok game. Rivers was unable to connect with VJ and Floyd as much as usual however he made the plays to get it done. The Cowboys are now 0-2 in December and look like they could make Trey right by going 0-5.

DeSean Jackson went off and returned a punt for a TD and had a long TD reception. Some fool said he is the new Devin Hester, that's crazy... DJ is killin it but he is not the returner that Hester was 2 years ago. The Eagles look dangerous but as usual they are not built to run the football. The Giants look like they are ready to fade.

Playoff picture, I think the Cowboys may be able to back into the playoffs. They are not going to beat the Saints unless the Saints screw up. This is what the NFC looks like:

Saints & Vikings get the byes
Eagles win the East
Cardinals win the West
Packers get the 1st wild card

Cowboys 8-5, Giants 7-6, Falcons 6-7 and 49ers 6-7 and fighting for the last spot. This is why the Cowboys may back into the playoffs. The 49ers play the Eagles ths week but then the Lions and Rams.... If the 49ers go 2-1 and the Cowboys go 1-2 the NFL's tiebreaker rules come into play. If Trey is right the Cowboys will lose all 5 games so it wouldn't matter.

AFC
Colts & Chargers get the byes unless the Bengals beat them this weekend and finish at least 2-1

Bengals win the North
Patriots win the East
Broncos & Ravens win the wild cards

Yes the Ravens will win the wild card. They close with the Bears at home, at the Steelers and the Raiders. The other teams have tougher schedules.

Offensive Player of the Year:
Chris Johnson, especially if he gets to 2,000 yards
1626 yards, 11 TDs, 20 runs of 20+ yards

Drew Brees is the runner up
3800 yards, 32 TDs, 10 INTs

Defensive Player of the Year:
Charles Woodson, this is not the first time I said this either.

Elvis Dumervil has 15 sacks and 3 forced fumbles
Jared Allen has 12.5 sacks an INT returned for a TD and 3 forced fumbles
Charles Woodson has 2 sacks, 8 INTs, 2 TDs and 4 forced fumbles

Offensive Player of the Year:
Percy Harvin has 682 yards receiving and 6 TDs
Michael Crabtree has 473 yards and 2 TDs and he plays with Alex Smith, he can make a case for ROY. Of course he won't get it because he held out.

Defensive Player of the Year:
Brian Orakpo has 11 sacks, tied for 4th in the league

Brian Cushing has 112 tackles, 2.5 sacks and 3 INTs
Cushing is 6th in total tackles but only 20th in solo tackles; not a LB think either, only 4 players ahead of him in solo tackles aren't linebackers

The league will probably give it to Cushing though...

I'm not sure how old this is but this is a pretty interesting video of the former mayor of Detroit, Michigan.

Chicago Teen Involved in Brawl Resulting in Students' Death

This kid is trippin. I blame the parents. A lot of people get the "if somebody hits you, hit them back" speech. But at some point you have to grow out of that and high school is that point. This is a problem amplified by young women having unwanted children. Freakonomics touched on this, it's the chapter about Roe v. Wade having more to do with the drop in crime in NYC than Rudy Guliani.
