Baatin of Slum Village Dies

Tragic news this weekend. One of Detroit's emcee, a member of Slum Village and a founder of the group, Baatin is no longer with us. We need to celebrate our emcees while they are alive. R.I.P man, Slum Village lives on!!!!

  1. i was trippin when i found out....slum will be missed....they are still going strong with T3 and elzhi (elzhi is crazy). i will buy the next album i think coming out in september...but i still would have liked to hope for a dilla, t3, baatin, elzhi complete album which is never going to occur....maybe they will get some work that all 4 have done and compile it posthumously....RIP dilla and baatin (true inventors of a hip hop style; they owned it).

i got that illa j this weekend....some hot tracks j dilla and his brothe illa j put down....its tight made mainly by the production....if you like the neo-soul meets hip hop sound like a fuzion of dwele meets foreign exchange meets slum then it is pretty good....

  2. Yeah I know its unfortunate to see him go. I really didn't know much about Baatin and his work but enough to appreciate his contribution to the group. Hopefully they do put together a complete tribute album with new work of the complete group.

Where did you get that illa j from? This weekend I went cruising down Portland area where Terrell Brandon's barbershop. Got a car wash and something to eat. They had a couple of record stores that I should have walked around and checked out. If illa j is anything like his brother then I would jump on it in a heart beat. I am cooking up something (actually already done!) that I'm gonna post up. I don't want to do it now since I need to give folks time to appreciate REAL GOOD MUSIC!!!!

  3. i got the last one at best buy....i went to a bookstore and 2 album shops in that area....but they were both too alternative. i was searching for slightly undergorund stuff like in the case of the music that illa j and they had like underground cuban jazz, african drum music, and a lot of records and live recordings of old artists...that was cool; i brought some jimi, marley and james brown but i never found an underground hip hop spot....let me know if you find one.
