don't laugh but happy meal roddy white wants Fitzgerald money

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/trainingcamp09/news/story?id=4380679

i am all for athletes getting their money.....pro sports seems to be the only industry where you are really compensated yearly based on inflation rate consistently (and sometimes more).....we the people (consumer) make this possible....but c'mon roddy white does not deserve fitzgerald consideration (i understand when you are negotiating you shoot for the ceiling and hope to get something close to that)......is roddy white a top ten wr in this league (i know some folks who will remain nameless will draft him 3rd round this yr but i think the rest of us feel he is a 8th round wr).....i feel bad for douglas, falcons 3rd string wr may be out for the yr, (hope he can rebound) but maybe roddy can use this tragedy as leverage to get what he wants (its a business).....and if so he should think about giving douglas a "disability pension payment or two."

  1. Roddy White is crazy. He should be paid more than $2.86M, but $10M a year? He is losing it, he is on the bubble as a top 10 receiver with 2 good but not great years. So I would give him $6M a year for 4 years tops with only $10M guaranteed and that might be high.

Douglas getting hurt does give him leverage. What is underreported is the fact that when the new CBA is negotiated owners want to make players wait 6 seasons to be unrestricted free agents. If players sign contracts before then they won't have to deal with that.

  2. he's bugging! Trey, you are right were sports pays a crazy year-to-year inflation rate compared to other industries and walks of life.
    - He's a top 10, but it's more like 8 or 9. I'd take A. Johnson, Fitz, Emeka's boy V. Jackson, S. Smith, R. Wayne, Calvin Johnson, R. Moss ahead of dude.
    - The same payment that Cassel should have given dude from the Chiefs?

  3. ok new topic to figure out where roody white ranks as a wr TODAY....

    1. L Fitz (i finally concede wholeheartedly)
    2. R Moss
    3. A Johnson
    4. C Johnson
    5. A Boldin
    6. S Smith
    7. P Buress and B Marshall
    9. T Owens
    10. R Wayne
11.T Holt (u can argue he is higher just not for me personally but he is money)
    12.S Moss
    13.B Edwards
    14.TJ Hoosiermama/C Ochocinco
    16.L Evans
    17.R Williams
    18.R WHITE

i got Roddy at 18....maybe even lower....i would take him over wes welker, j galloway, harrison, colston, santonio, hines, the two jacksons but i think these guys all may be what and what with him....you guys can question the former bengal tandem (ok so he is 16) but i think they both suffered from lacking qb play. if tj or ocho played with the falcons last year they would have been fine. also everyone thinks roy williams is a bum now; people need to check roy's previous production with the lions....

its going to be a great season playing with you guys with roddy white IN or near your top ten....

  4. Whoa Trey, I am not big on Roddy and maybe top 10 is a little high but 18th?

    1. Fitz
    2. A Johnson
    3. Anquan Boldin
    4. C Johnson
    5. Reggie Wayne
    6. Terrell Owens
    7. Brandon Marshall
    8. Steve Smith
    9. Randy Moss
    10. Ocho Cinco
    11. Braylon Edwards
    12. Roy Williams
    13. TJ Housh

Ok so maybe White is top 15. But there are some serious question marks in that top group. Roddy may not be top 10 right now, but next season he probably will be. Smith, Owens and Moss are on the decline, we'll see what Housh can do against double coverage and Braylon Edwards looks like he had a fluke year. He is within the margin of error to be #12.

Did you really put Torry Holt, Santana Moss, Lee Evans and Plaxico Burress on that list Trey? You might as well have added VJ to cover Emeka's argument...

  5. i don't like torry holt but you gotta give to a guy that produces with sad quarterbacking (little to no running game) which goes along for lee and santana....plax is the truth....you keep saying eli was/will be exposed without plax so who do you give credit for moving the chains for the g-men....its plax.

  6. Roddy White over the past 2 years (with Joey Harrington and Matt Ryan as QB) has gotten ~1200 yards and 6-7 TDs a year. Dude is legit, who else do the Falcons have as targets? Looking at the list in whole:

    1. Fitz
    2. A Johnson
    3. R Moss
    4. C Johnson
    5. R Wayne
    6. S Smith
    7. H Ward
    8. V Jackson
    9. M Colston
    10. S Holmes
    11. G Jennings
    12. A Boldin & R. Wayne
    14. W Welker
    15. T Owens

Plax is off the list because he's clearly not going to play this year...

  7. Plaxico is definitely better than Roddy White, but Plaxico isn't an NFL player at the moment and probably never will be again. Torry Holt isn't getting on my list... Santonio Holmes and Wes Welker are slot WRs who can't be #1 so no way they get up there. Greg Jennings is a legit oversight on my part. Trevor what is Hines Ward doing at number 7? VJ is off 1 good year, Colston is inconsistent and you have Wayne on there twice.

I still think Roddy White ends up in the top 10 this year if he is healthy.

    Chiald Please....

  8. sorry, Roddy White is tied with Q @ 12. Can't edit comments...I would say that 9-13 are bunched up, so Roddy White is on the cusp of the top 10 this year.

Wes Welker, yes. Santonio plays opposite of Hines Ward, he's the B option instead of the A if we're playing madden. How is his position different than Q, both play on the line of scrimmage.

VJ, what can i say. I'm with Emeka, I like dude. He's been on the come-up, improving every season.

  9. uhhh about avging 6.5 TDs for 2 seasons....

chris chambers avg'ed 9.7 TDs for 3 straight seasons....what roddy did is not that impressive...

    is chris chambers better....
