Where is the passion in the new Slaughterhouse Album?

Downloaded it over the weekend, was kinda geeked about the whole idea of 4 guys who can rap their tail off just ripping the mic over some hardbody beats. Quoting Phonte from Little Brother, "Dope beats, dope rhymes, what more do y'all want."

However, something's missing. There's no fire, no passion? The beats are str8, they rapped hard, but i just don't feel like anything grabs me and forces my attention. Am i just trippin'? Does this mean i'm losing some appreciation for the artform? An I wrong to expect the passion from Joe Buddens, Crooked I, Royce, and Joell Ortiz that I hear in a young Inspecta Deck, etc...

I hope I'm buggin, or this album just isn't that good. I'd hate to think i'm becoming one of those folks who can't listen to new rap music cuz i'm stuck in a 90s Jansport state of mind (not that there's anything wrong with that...)

  1. it kinda reminds me of when killa priest, ras kass, cannibus, and kurupt formed the 4 horsemen....

well they did have financial issues....

it can be a number of things...if they have no chemistry that may take away from it too kinda like TEAM USA in basketball (they get it done skill wise but it is always somewhat ugly i think due to the lack of chemistry)....

meanwhile not-as-talented guys can do great things by making it up chemistry and passion too...think no limit records....

  3. Hahaha... Man I previewed the entire album and it was spot on with my expectations... straight TRASH!!! There are only two emcees I like from the group, Joell Ortiz and Royce. Outside of that these fools can disembody the group. Watching Joe Budden's girl, Tahiry, can sell more units than The Slaughter House album.

But on the real.. All these dudes had very little, virtually no solo success. And so it'll be highly likely that a joint venture would yield the same result. There was so much hype. I think it would have been better had they probed their fans or underground audience with a Slaughterhouse mixtape. That would have generated some indication of how these dudes gel and create material for their solid audiences and potentials. The production on the project is borderline reasonable but when you listen to it, the track bodies Crooked I and Joe Budden. Joell Ortiz and Royce are the only one that stands out, sometimes Crooked I would but still. Their lyrics perpetuate thru the beat and these kats are surfing thru them (totally dude).

Maybe you need to give it sometime to grow on you, generally speaking.
