Bill simmons ranking players all over the league

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/090415

emeka will love this as it erroneously, indirectly supports starting a team around chris paul (having a CRAZY quiet season) rather than dwight (questioning his effort) but bill does not account for upside and potential....he is merely ranking MVPs skipping a few every now and then....thus you have to read dwight's and chris paul's

my favorites are elton's, zach's, vince's ("he's trying tonight"), AI's, stuckey's, nate's (no one has ever won a title with a 5'7 PG that does not pass), boris's (offer insight as to why you always fire coaches first) and kidd's (with cuban's made-up stat to justify trading harris)

he puts d wade's triumphs in perspective

he puts the contributions of kevin love (stop sleeping), troy murphy (he has been good but never played for a winning franchise EVER), and anderson (ok here's where he loses me) in perspective

he is bordeline blasphemous in ranking ray allen with other shooters....

  1. this was a great article, i fully feel the kobe, carmelo, amare (str8 comedy), and lebron comments. the billups as a down-ballot mvp candidate completely ignores that nene/kenyon are healthy this year, and jr smith can really ball! just people looking for a story rather than doing research.

the boris diaw was a piece of doo-doo. the vince was classic!

  6. Great article... Bill Simmons is a smart dude and knows his ball. Of course he got Chris Paul right... where is your boy D-Will.
Plus look at Scottie Pippen getting mad props:
Considering that LeBron defended the other team's best scorer every night, played the free-safety role better than anyone since Scottie Pippen, defended four different positions, allowed his team to play small or big, and always seemed to have one momentum-altering block per game ... I mean, what more do you need?

    3. Offensively, only four players since 1974 led their teams in total points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks: Dave Cowens (1978), Scottie Pippen (1995), Kevin Garnett (2003) and LeBron (2009). He also became the first top-three scorer to crack the top 25 in rebounds, assists, steals and blocks as well: 28.4 ppg (second), 7.2 apg (ninth), 7.6 rpg (25th), 1.69 steals (seventh), 1.15 blocks (23rd). Since Feb. 1, he's averaging a 29-8-8 and approaching the 50-40-80 Club in percentages (49 percent FG, 40 percent 3FG, 78 percent FT). Let's just say his statistical chops are in place.

    C'mon people...

  7. you know i was tripping with the d wade/jack bauer connection....crazy that i wouldn't have felt him if not for Ace---my dealer. d wade should take that as his new nickname...

i am just mad he kinda spoiled some of the seasons, but the high will never be as good as the first one anyway.

  8. Sports Guy is a funny dude. I like his NBA and Vegas articles. Lebron has been crazy... he is the MVP. No question. CP3 as the #2 choice? Not so sure about that. Doesn't his argument against Chris Bosh apply to CP3 too? Overinflated stats because he's on a bad team? Sounds like CP3 to me. Don't get me wrong, CP3 is nice. Not Isiah Thompson (Thomas) nice (that press conference was hilarious), but still nice.

I worry about Dwight. He has too much Admiral in him. Not enough mean streak. He is just a nice guy. Nothing wrong with that, but you gotta be an asshole to be great. See Shaq, Barkley, Malone, Ewing, KG, etc. The Admiral was nice though, so hope is not lost. If Dwight can add the Admiral's jumper, then he'll be trouble. Still I'd like to see him play angrier. Like KG does. Dwight will dunk over someone and then crack a smile. Doesn't work for me.

I also agree with his thoughts on Kobe (even though he is a notorious Kobe hater). Kobe has to get it done this season to cement his greatness. I think it'll happen. Lebron ain't ready yet. He still looks up to Kobe and that is why he'll lose. Lakers over the Cavs in 5. But, I'm getting ahead of myself. Utah is on the chopping block first. Enjoy the ride...
