I am mixed on this, Why are these two women fighting police ?, Why can't he take control of the situation, maybe he could have used pepper spray to take control or call for backup, Is Jaywalking that serious?

  1. SMH...... I saw this on a different media outlet. I mean the situation could have been handled a whole lot better but irrespective of jaywalking being a serious crime or not or whether the girl in the pink was trying to free her friend from the police's firm grip, it doesn't warrant a male socking a chic in the face like a guy. For all we know she could have been from out of town visiting family or friends.

Not certain if this took place in Seattle or Tacoma but I have heard the black people in Tacoma to have issues with the police. It's crazy.. I'm quite sure something must have escalated to him wanting to put his hand on the girl.

  2. too many unknowns... you don't know if the cop thought they were going for his gun...

this is alot like the guys shot at the border for throwing rocks... i feel he has a right to protect himself and anytime the police use force on women it comes off excessive. if he tases (they would say why didn't he physically restrain her), sprays, or anything physical it comes off wrong... personally i am growing tired of seeing women act like they can take on male authority because he won't hit them... if this were a female cop being doubled team there wouldn't be anything to this story if the cop uses the club or taser.

i think he struggled gaining control of the situation because he did not want to hit them and when he did he knew he would be youtubed for life.

now why did he choose to enforce jay walking... i don't know. laws can be weird... people always feel like they should continue to get away with the things that they have always gotten away with (turning right on red at 2am, illegal parking, making illegal u-turns, speeding, etc...). the law is law (outside of obvious injustice like laws stating black people sit in the back of the bus) and regardless of enforcement frequency you can't cop an attitude when you get caught. in fact you should be thankful the law is enforced as poorly as it is or you would be broke from driving infractions...

that's my devil's advocate for today with some truth thrown in....

  3. Last week I was not surprised that a teenager was shot and killed after a border patrol agent felt threatened as rocks were hurled at him.

This week again I am putting some of the blame on the perpetrator, but this time I am putting some blame on the officer. Who cites someone for jaywalking? That's one of those laws that should only be enforced if the jaywalking results in an accident. I know the reason jaywalking is illegal is partly so that it doesn't cause accidents, but people are pretty good and not doing that so I'm ok with it. In addition to that if you are a police officer and you feel threatened by a single individual, man or woman, then you should have taken control from the beginning. From what I saw I didn't see an officer in fear of harm.

To the perpetrator, what the hell were these girls thinking? Resisting arrest and putting your hands on a police officer... While I think this was a bit of excessive force the girl kinda deserved it, and that's crazy considering this is a man hitting a woman. That is never ok, but person A puts hands on police officer B, person A is getting hit.

In the end the blame lies with the girls. The officer was defending himself. This deserves a crazy person tag...

  4. GC, if this was anyway shape or form racially motivated then that's another topic. The police department needs to be investigated.... b/c that does happen... What's Humility I agree. If jaywalking is illegal.. Then, if the police chooses to give a person a ticket, then that's the officers discretion as long as there isn't any racial bias. trey_the father of balance, I too am to quote you: "personally i am growing tired of seeing women act like they can take on male authority because he won't hit them..." There are some unknowns in this situation.... This is a tough one b/c it's a black female and a white cop; putting that aside. Here's the key point the girl needs to realize and I think she will realize it after this incident... If an officers is trying to physically restrain your friend for breaking a law... Then don't push, try to pry the officer's hand off your friend, or anyway get physical with the officer b/c you might get punched or even worse... that situation essentially had nothing to do with the female in the red shirt; therefore, she should have been a bystander... and not a participant... Wether the officers is right or wrong in giving her friend a ticket for Jaywalking the girl in the red shirt shouldn't have gotten involved....

  5. i heard these "girls" were teens... that's another story. if that is indedd tru he probably shouldn't hit the girl in the face.

the burning question is the female TEEN WAS WHITE, would things be different. my experiences tell me that a white cop probably more often than not does not issue a ticket for jaywalking unless it poses obvious harm... second my experiences tell me a white male cop probably doesn't punched a white female teen in the face... i admit these are generalizations as i know none of the people involved but again my experiences make me lean towards what i just mentioned.

if a black male cop punches a white female teen in the face, i think the punishment and outcry is more severe...

this doesn't change the fact that regardless of races i don't think the male cop could have done any sort of non-physical restraint (tasing, spray, choke hold, etc.) against a female that did not gain media attention.
