Let fans vote on 1 street ball dunker to compete in the NBA All star Slam Dunk contest

I was thinking about this last week. I really think the slam dunk contest has fallen off so to spice it up we have street ballers submit their dunks online and let the fans vote for the best dunker. The winner gets a chance to compete in the NBA All Star Small Dunk competition.

Thoughts???

i think its a great idea but the NBA won't take a chance at street ballers undermining their precious product....

  5. I think this would extend the NBAs brand in a good way, to me there was been a disconnect between the NBA and street ball, and there has always been comparisons of how well street folks would do against the pros. The NBA already has extended its brand with the commercials and video games that feature basketball in a street ball environment. I don't see this hurting the brand at all, who is really going to watch less nba games or attend less games because they extended the all star game to include 1 dunker, as for the reference for trading one thug for another, we had plays jump into the stand fighting fans without the inclusion of anyone. Think of how many people would vote for street players over the web which would be a chance for more ads, think of the story of a player raising up to earn a spot on the development league, I think everyone enjoys American Idol and the whole model of getting a shot at your dream, if the NBA adopts the model of giving someone a chance would make crazy growth. Plus another reason to open it up is the stars are not competing in the slam dunk anymore
