Fox News' Bill O'Reilly Backs Public Option?

I have always stopped short of calling Bill O'Reilly a complete hack on the level of Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh but this is very surprising.

O'REILLY: The public option now is done. We discussed this, it's not going to happen. But you say that this little marketplace that they're going to set up, whereby the federal government would subsidize insurance for some Americans, that is, in your opinion, a public option?

OWCHARENKO: Well, it has massive new federal regulation. So you don't necessarily need a public option if the federal government is going to control and regulate the type of health insurance that Americans can buy.
O'REILLY: But you know, I want that, Ms. Owcharenko. I want that. I want, not for personally for me, but for working Americans, to have a option, that if they don't like their health insurance, if it's too expensive, they can't afford it, if the government can cobble together a cheaper insurance policy that gives the same benefits, I see that as a plus for the folks.

  1. I've always thought the public option was a good idea, espically considering Medicare/Medicaid are basically public options for the extremely poor and elderly. If you want additional insurance as a 70 year old, you can get supplementary blue-cross blue sheild. Folks are really losing sight of the forrest due to the trees, something needs to be done. Just get a basic plan through, and then modify the details of it later. Sheesh...

  2. Also, I wish that people who oppposed the public option would PERMANETLY remove themselves from recieving any social security, medicare, and/or governmental assistance for the rest of their lifetimes. Don't be hypocritical, you're willing to accept money from current socalist, public programs but you don't want others to recieve some benefits.

alot of these very people oppose public healthcare altogether but were cool accepting grants and financial aid for college which outside of loans is socialize education for folks that can't fully afford tuition as is. now i think people have been roped into an us vs them battle and are just being right fighters as dr. phil puts it.

  4. I agree regarding the hypocrites. I would take Trevor's point a step further. If you are against the public option because you have health insurance, don't apply for assistance when you lose it.

How can you be against socialism when without Medicare and social security most people's parents would be living with them. Republicans were against social security and medicare when they were introduced.
