  2. Bill Simmons groupies... He will be up at the B&N at Desert Ridge tomorrow night if you want to meet him and get a book signed.

    I'll probably order it online.

Re: Ewing... I've always beed a Ewing fan. An intimidator defensively, a nice offensive game, including probably the best big man jump shot, until Sabonis came along. The problem for him was that he never had a team good enough to beat MJ's Bulls. Who was his best teammate in the early 90's? Starks? Oakley? Harper? The Knicks big mistake was letting Xavier McDaniel go and replacing him with Trey's boy Charles Smith. I think they beat the 1993 Bulls with Xavier. Ewing never really had a decent team around him until they got Spree, Houston, Childs, and Camby. At this point though Ewing was pretty much done. 39th all tie feels about right... I'd have to look at his complete list to judge though. Basically in his time he was below Hakeem and Shaq... on par with Robinson (though the Admiral was better offensively)... better than Smits, Lambier, Daugherty, Parish, etc...

  3. i think we got a new argument... ewing or robinson... to me this is no contest similar to hakeem and ewing is no contest... i mean all three are good but the ranking seems obvious (1) hakeem, (2) ewing, (3) robinson... i think you can argue robinson or mourning. no robinson was better...right? anyway rank the centers from 92 to 2002.... actually you can argue shaq vs hakeem...

    (1) shaq
    (2) hakeem
    (3) ewing
    (4) robinson
    (5) mourning
    (6) dikembe
    (7) smits
    (8) daugherty
    (9) parrish
    (10)sabonis

note parrish (sabonis too.. too bad he didn't come over in the late 80s) would be higher (after kareem and moses) during the bird-magic era... i am trying to capture the jordan era.

  4. To me it is a toss up. Their stats are very similar. See links below. Robinson had a higher scoring average and rebounding average, but I like Ewing as a rebounder more because he got his numbers playing with a beast like Oakley. Robinson had a higher peak, but didn't play as long (keep in mind that he didn't play for 2 years after the Naval academy due to his military obligations). Robinson was a way better athlete and scorer. He was probably the most athletic center since Wilt. He would dunk on everyone and ran the break better than any center ever. His problem was that he was too nice. Also Dwight Howard's problem. Ewing was more intimidating and played tough. Neither was particularly clutch. Though Ewing was kind of a choker... a rep that Robinson never had. Robinson has 2 rings, thanks to the arrival of Duncan, but he was still the man on that 1999 team. Both were Dream Teamers. Both got worked by The Dream in the playoffs. It's a toss up. Put a gun to my head and I take Robinson in his prime vs. Ewing in his prime.

    My list...

    1. Hakeem
    2. Shaq
    3. Robinson
    4. Ewing
    5. Mourning
    6. Dikembe
    7. Smits
    8. Vlade Divac (don't sleep)
    9. Parrish
    10. Daugherty

  5. you tripping... robinson was athletic... robinson never had the opportunity to choke... in fact he did choke... his games were just more meaningless. i call this the garnett or webber rule.... these guys played in big games alost to the spurs and lakers and people say they are not clutch. no they just lost to a better team. same with ewing. the spurs were never favored are a real contender until duncan... thats on robinson... he and ewing played with poor talent.... but ewing did the most with his poor talent playing against JORDAN of all people. the spurs were never a threat when he was the best player on the team... the suns, jazz, lakers, rockets, blazers, sonics, even the nuggest at times were better... i mean they were always the underdog (consistent number 6 seed in the west with mr robinson. david was good but in some caes i would rather zo over him... again probably because he was too nice.... that cannot be overlooked.
