donte suspended for a year...excessive?

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4396130

probably not excessive relative to suspending people ~4 games for fighting in clubs....i just feel this is why the player's union needs to push for documented punishment actions so that everyone knows the risk they are taking when they engage in certain activity.....as opposed to the commish just throwing his muscle around at a whim....

  1. nah, a year's about right. when it comes down to it, his blood alcohol was right @ or above the legal limit, and he ended up killing somebody accidentally. He caught the huge break only getting 30 days in jail! If i was him, i would be thankful for this suspension and move on.

  2. One year suspension is a tap on the wrist. This fool took someone's life away and the legal system gave him only 30 days. WOW! Talk about star power...

Anyways as far as Godell's authority of judge, jury and executioner is a classic example excessive power granted to one person. I agree that the player's union should be involved in matters concerning players disciplinary action. There's not much to say about this subject other than the player's union need to discuss their involvement over official disciplinary action decisions.

  3. I am torn on this one. A man is dead which cannot be changed no matter what.

However after watching E:60 and finding out more details it may be a bit much, and the $5M settlement too. Mr. Reyes, the deceased darted out into the street (not a cross walk) from behind a palm tree when it wasn't light outside yet. That is what the district attorney said. The DA said he couldn't have proven the blame should solely be on Stallworth because of the tape showing Mr. Reyes darting into the street. A released 911 recording reveals Stallworth wasn't slurring in the least bit.

But because the public is too stupid to be informed about everything Goodell is protecting his league's image. I would have been fine with 8 games in light of everything and that is just because it's necessary. If you watch the E:60 story you will see this could have been a whole lot of people we know.

  4. he blew a 0.126, which is illegal in every state in America. That's equivalent to about 3 drinks in an hour, which might not be that big of a deal depending on your tolerance. Dante Stallworth did everything by the book (took a limo home and went to sleep, didn't drive until the morning) and happened to get unlucky. I'm sorry to say that about a man's death, but it really was a fluke accident.
