ReplyDeletethe bottom line to me is how much money the guys get paid, relatibility (that is where white vs brown comes in), popularity, and actual deeds and televised personality (lying to congress, the public, a school about a job, killing dogs, doing drugs)....the televised personality (how much the media likes you) is huge. for instance the some sectors of the general public after 2 episodes of the TO show are wondering why was he villified in the first place...TO isn't that bad of a guy but these ppl have been letting skip mold their opinions...
interesting there is not that many drug users...people generally forgive drug users/abusers very easily...wonder why...that's the relatibility thing as i mentioned before. i think people feel like they can relate to folks (they know a person) in rehab for alcohol, cocaine, heorine, meth, etc....(not steroids; it isn't popular amongst common people).
popularity is huge too...who is right now....in 2002 bonds was top 5 easy....in 1995 tyson was top 5 easy. this is the reason vick is number 1....in 1996-7 OJ would have been top 5....pac man was top 5 in 2007.
at the end of the day, ppl need to check their stone throwing....ppl feel they know these guys from tv and that is so far from the truth.
I am actually surprised Pacman didn't make the list. ESPN just did a story on him to make sure no team signs him.
ReplyDeleteIf this is about timing, why are Kobe, McEnroe and Saban on the list? People hate Kobe because he won? That's serious haterade. McEnroe has been retired for over a decade and Saban lied about 3 years ago.
Some people on the list are surprising, but I don't think it's surprising that 6 of the 10 are black. It's a number game. Blacks represent a large portion of the sports world (NFL, NBA, not so much baseball anymore). So just numbers-wise you'd have to expect any list of athletes (hated, most loved, most popular, etc) to include a lot of black folks.

Vick beat animals, A-Rod is an asshole, a bad teammate, and lied about steroids, Manny is a roider, a bad teammate and rarely plays hard, TO is a QB killer, a bad teammate, and has a huge ego. I'm actually surprised that Kobe isn't #1 on the list. Only Laker fans like him. Everyone else hates him. Whether it's Colorado, the Shaq thing, his cockiness, etc... most people don't like him outside of Laker fans.
AI doesn't belong on this list... sure he has an attitude, but the dude plays hard all the time. Maybe it was the "Practice, practice..." thing. Maybe it's the hiphop image he portrays. The rest of the list is stupid. Zeek? I guess New Yorkers and Jordan fans might hate him, but is he really a top 10 most hated? Marbury is an idiot, but most hated? Maybe that 24/7 thing he did caused this. Nick Saban... I get it, but who cares outside of Dolphin and LSU fans? John McEnroe? Is he relevant? Is this 1978?
Anyway, I don't think this list is anything to get worked up about.
you guys know how these voting things are....espn probably submitted the list and had folks rank them (need to look that up to make sure but they rarely have open submissions from anyone)...so that is the only reason mcenroe made it i think....manny and a-rod are brown (of african decent) so to pretend like a-rod and manny don't apply is crazy...parker raised the question why only 2 white guys (not black guys if you want to separate hispanic and black)...the truth still remains that there are 2 white guys and one shouldn't even be on the list (mcenroe)...technically the question really is why does america hate black and BROWN athletes....
ReplyDeletewhere are the 8 guys parker mentioned...why does macguire get a media pass when it comes to steroids (bigger than the brown guys at least)? why is big ben coming away unbothered in this rape allegation (i think it is correct to wait for facts in things like this but kobe, tyson, and other were not given the same treatment)? saying that it is a numbers game is not looking at all the facts....
basketball is highly populated by blacks, baseball is evenly and gradually hued but majority white, football is split down the middle between blacks and whites, hockey is white, nascar is white, and other (golf, tennis, soccer, etc.) is white....so we do not dominate sports like the media likes to portray as so....where are those other guys in sports...nascar has polar guys gordon, stewart, and the dude driving at 200mph on meth or whatever....golf has polar figures in daly and mickelson. obviously football has its polar white figures in bret, jay cutler, philip rivers, etc.. all sports have these polar figures but no one sickens "voters" enough to top isiah thomas and allen iverson...wow....we forget about the coaches and GMs (well zeke made the list); what about al davis, jerry jones, calipari, USC coaches, urban meyer, the cakalak basketball coaches...
another thing the 2 white dudes are 9 and 10...i mean c'mon.
i call it a relatibility factor because honestly i do not believe the majority of ppl sit around being obvioulsy racist anymore. it is about seeing someone for who they are and the amount of leeway you give (the benefit of the doubt) based on how you see someone....

A couple more things you have to remember is that it's an online poll, so you're really sampling the population that STAYS on the internet. It's more than likely they would have the relatabillity issue Trey is talking about as well...
