Do black people have those fall from grace come back stories???

Every now and then we run into those American stories where some big star falls from grace then turn there life around only for America to fall back in love when them.

Mickey Rourke: Scandal: public meltdown, mental institution stint, rehab stints, custody battle ==> Sin City, The Wrestler, Iron Man 2

Hugh Grant, who was caught with a prostitute of his own in 1995, ==> a bunch of cute love drama with J-Lo

Russell Crowe's 2005 phone-wielding altercation has caused any real long-term career fallout ==> Body of Lies (2008) -- American Gangster (2007) -- 3:10 to Yuma (2007) # A Good Year (2006)

Eddie Murphy's late 1990s incident involving a transvestite prostitute ==> came back as the king of family comedy. Then again according to this documentary on black people in hollywood, Eddie is no longer black he is not white so some how the black rules and anchors don't apply, kind of like Michael Jackson: he is classified under the race of Michael Jackson.

OJ Simpson accused killer ==> he didn't make it back

Kobe Bryant accused rape, sodomy ==> he is back in the NBA but he doesn't seem to be the darling of the media as everyone expected with more money from endorsements like MJ23 had, plus Lebron came on the scene and it seems as though the media is willing to throw money behind him, just look at his commercials, its not clear what they're selling (chalk for throwing purposes), but we still watch.

Michael Vick

Are going to see Michael give one of those post victory speeches or interviews where he contrast his lows with his come back story and will America fall back in love with him? Does he have the come back ability (if its real in the first place)? or Will the media give him another chance and put the come back strategist behind him so that they can an accuse to play that "One shining moment"( I swear the look for any little chance to play that song and get me teary eyed) song to the tune of Michael V. crying (in super slow mo) after winning the championship

OR

Are we going to see some kind of weird "OJ Like" strategy to make money by coming out with the book "If I did kill the DOG this is how I would do it?"

  1. Oh Mike Vick is never going to get away from this. It's different than OJ because OJ's problems were mostly after he finished playing.

There was a debate on ESPN similar to this and it spawned out of the Josh Hamilton story. White baseball player (blue chip prospect) who was addicted to drugs and out of the game. And then last season had a great year and he was treated like a hero. Now Hamilton hurt himself while Vick hurt animals, but still there is a ridiculous discrepancy when you look at all these stories.

The way Vick is being ridiculed in the media 2 year later is pathetic. Have you seen Arthur Blank's latest statment?
    Paraphrase:
I wish Michael the best. We still hold his rights when he is reinstated, however we feel he should continue his career somewhere else.
Is that joker going to try and trade Mike Vick's rights? I want to see what he says when Matt Ryan is a few games into that sophomore slump. Or maybe he can explain how he gave Matt Ryan more weapons in 2 years than he gave Vick in 7?

  2. i think it will be tough for vick...i am rooting for him but not optimistic....i think race obviuosly has a place in these but overall public perception is bigger.

for instance pete rose...he gambled on sports and has not rebounded...alot of these steroid guys are having a tough time...

this is what i mean by public perception....

if you do (and moreover are convicted) of something that people do sometimes (drugs, DUI, smoking weed, picking up a prostitue (a regular one)), people generally get over these. when you do things that seem more rare, then people can't relate (basically can i see myself or family member or friend getting in trouble for this). is this an "abnormal" crime? these are murder, selling alot of drugs, DOGFIGHTING, gambling on one's sport, or repeatedly doing the normal crimes, prostitution with transgendered folks (regular heterosexual prostitution is easily explanable--other cases not so much). these are not everyday things so ppl are quick to cast you away--basically people are judgmental. rape is always interesting because it is usually his word against mine...the day someone gets caught selling young girls into sex slavery, that dude is done...this is not "normal"...sleeping (in some cases urinating on) with a 16 yr old who lied about her age...you can come back from that because people rationalize it because it happens although it may be wrong. it is all in how folks rationalize certain acts...the other real component is abnormal crimes come with stiffer penalty naturally so it hard to come back if you kill someone at 22 yr old and get 15 yrs in prison.
