chris says jordan is an unfair comparison

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/playoffs/2009/columns/story?columnist=broussard_chris&page=MJShadow-090528

this is hard to dispute though....maybe jordan clearly is in a class by himself....

i've always said it takes at least 2 HOFers to win a NBA title....this was only broken by the dream once against another HOFer with no help in ewing and possibly lenny wilkens w/ the sonics (not sure, we have to ask otis)...when i started watching the NBA 2 or more HOFers are required to win a title and in some cases there are multiple HOFers on the runner up....

even though it is too early ace (i know) i say this to say kobe and lebron are the only HOFers on their squads....the nuggets may have 2 in melo and chauncey and the magic may have one in dwight surrounded by 2 good all stars (not like the all stars ewing had in oakley and starks-lewis and hedo can hoop)...

jordan did defy the big man rule but he still had pip and rodman (detroit's ben wallace--if cleveland had that big ben dwight would be in trouble) later. maybe todays guys are not that good or the competition at the wing position is stiffer today....jordan's toughest opponents were dumars, drexler, richmond, miller and it gets easy: starks, g wilkins, ehlo, rex, steve smith, eddie jones, marjerle, hersey hawkins, kendall gill, glen rice....i mean there is a step function. today's wings are talented: kobe, lebron, melo, pierce, jesus, redd, hamilton, manu, josh howard, gilbert, caron, durant, roy, wade, j johnson, artest, k martin, ben gordon, mike miller, tasyshun, etc..

i am rambling...

  1. I like this article. This is good insight for me since the pre-Jordan era was before my time. Jordan is probably the major reason I discount big men.

The thing that sets Jordan apart from Lebron and Kobe is that he was more competitive. Let's be honest, having MJ as a friend probably sucks unless you are Tiger or Charles. If you win at anything he is automatically going to want a rematch and he may punch you if you frustrate him.

Lebron likes to win but he doesn't define himself that way. Kobe is more competitive than Lebron but still not at MJ's level. I think Kobe trying to appear to be a good teammate prevents him from going off on his teammates the way Jordan did. Kobe tries to instill what is necessary in his teammates but he doesn't ride them hard enough.

  3. if chauncey wins this year which he will if they beat the lake show (fat chance but plausible) chauncey will get consideration for the hall....i think he would be more desrving than horry who some say is a lock...people forget he was finals mvp in the most upset-like final i have seen.

but right now i agree with you...he is in the hall of very good...a gold medal he was robbed of last year by tayshun, deron, and kidd would have helped too....i thought he should have been strongly considered for the squad over those 3.
