I must object to Vinsanity even being mentioned as a possible second coming of Jordan. The convo can be had about Kobe but not Vince.
ReplyDeleteHow is Nash the second coming of Stockton? Stockton is the all time leader in steals and Nash doesn't play defense. Just because they are both White and overrated doesn't mean they are the same.
Not sure about Magic and Penny either. Penny got hurt way to much to prove this. He was versatile though. I would make a comparison between Scottie and Magic more than either of those two and Penny and Lebron.
second coming to me is all about being projected....early on ppl thought vince was a second coming of your....he just didn't live up to it the way kobe has but vince has tons of similarities with jordan....vince is clutch, vince is called air canada, vince went to UNC, vince won a dunk title, vince dunks over ppl in games, vince can shoot. vince stop short of putting in the work jordan and kobe did. vince was jordan reincarnated until kobe arrived and really showed you what it is supposed to look like.

ReplyDeleteco-sign, they really thought that right when he came out of UNC. To me, Vince's problem is that he's not in love with the game of basketball, so he never put it work to get better. His whole career has been a huge disappointment.

ReplyDeleteI would compare Dwight more to the Admiral, than the Mailman. He doesn't have the mean streak that Karl had, or the offensive game. Dwight has the Admiral's nice guy persona and defensive abilities. If he can add the Admiral's jump shot, then he'll be ridiculous. The Admiral to me is underrated in the history of centers. This guy was a beast defensively and athletically, plus he had the game to win a scoring title. He was just too nice of a guy, so he doesn't get the same love as Ewing, Hakeem, Kareem, etc. To me he was just as good as Ewing and slightly below Hakeem. When Duncan came in, people forget that you could not score inside on that team. They were swatting everything. It was crazy. Anyway, I can see Dwight being that dude. Hopefully he develops a meaner streak on the court. Even when he does a crazy dunk over someone, he cracks a smile. Another reason why Shaq was so good. He wanted to embarass you.
Also, Ricky Rubio is the second coming of Pistol Pete. I'm pre-ordering my Rubio jersey as soon as it's available.
Also, comparing Paul Milsap to Barkley is an insult to Barkley. Barkley was crazy good. Look at these highlights... especialy the Sixers ones... Dude was crazy!!! Paul Millsap????????!?!?!??!

they're the same type of player (short power forwards who can ball), he's not as good as Barkley but dude is nice.
ReplyDeletesecond coming does not mean you have to meet a certain level of play as your precedessor....you just have to show glimpses that remind you of the precedessor....so i understand the paul millsap/barkley....for undersized PF, barkley is the HOF model...to me all of these guys are second comings but eons away from being:

the closest comparison (truest second coming)would be LJ....and you can throw in boozer and elton but they do not display the athletecism or outside shooting so there is a huge gap even with them. LJ was atheletic, short, a rebounding machine, an asshole at times, had commercials being ignant, and could hit the three every now and then when his back and knees got bad like barkley.
