ASU Snubs Barack for honorary degree

Now when I first glanced at this headline I thought it was funny. I thought ASU made the statement that Barack Obama is too experienced to receive an honorary degree from ASU. I could see that. But then I read on to find out that the University in fact thinks that Barack Obama isn't experienced enough to receive an honorary degree from ASU. I'm sorry I don't want to offend more people than I usually do, but ASU is known as a party school, Barack went to Columbia and Harvard. Now some people in the Wolfpack who will remain nameless would scoff at even going to ASU yet alone taking the time to receive an honorary degree.....

You may ask who does ASU give honorary degrees to?
Well I looked at the list, and I'm not mildly impressed. L Douglas Wilder was on there but everybody else reads like a whose who of mediocrity (in terms of honorary degrees and all).

Ok so Barry Goldwater was on there and he received his oh so coveted honorary degree from ASU 3 before he was the Republican nominee for President, and he lost. Sandra Day O'Conner, important, received her's 3 years into her 25 years on the Supreme Court. I'm sure some of the people are important and have accomplished some things, but I'm pretty sure not one of them has ever been close to being the most powerful person in the world, without the help of daddy.

  1. i heard that ASU treats its honorary degree like a lifetime achievement award....if this is true and consistent, i could live with this. barack is young although assuming the highest position in the land, by ASU standards a retired CEO of a company or an aged science nobel laureate has a better chance not because of what they have done but simply because of age...how old was barry and sandra may be more important to them...if this does not jive (is consistent throughout; not to mention a more distinct connection with Az) then they are just bitter.....good for them.

if i were barack i would probably never mention an honorary degree from ASU...being president and attaining a degree from harvard and other real honors makes an ASU honorary degree that item you always forget to place on your resume because it actually hurts you more than helps. no problem with ASU's cirriculum (i hate the slogan that the new president has instituted, "we want to be known for who we include not who we exclude"; a backwards approach to diversity) but i am sure obama's honors dwarfs an ASU honorary degree (there is no room for it on his 2-pager or his 4-5 pager for that matter).

  4. LOL that would be funny, but he would catch way too much flack for pulling out.

Now if that were me I would still go and make it obvious that the jackasses who made the decision don't know shit and can't be taken seriously. I would find out the credentials of those who made the decision and make sure to work them into my speech. They would be sitting their fuming but not able to leave because of the ceremony. That would be the last time some people tried to play me like that....

  5. that's why chase can't be president

i was looking at the credentials and some of the awardees and it is pretty much straight bullshit that he is not being given this honor. but like i said the award is so insignificant on his resume.

but overall it seems that it is plain courtesy to honorarily award any president doing commencement a doctorate....let me know if find an instance where the bush's or clinton gave commencement and were not extended the honorary degree....
