$30 Billion+ For the Capability to Nuke the Soviet Union

This article is interesting, Ryan Grim makes the point that whenever one takes issue with the pending Healthcare Bill the cost is brought up. Trillion dollars or more, sometime it's mentioned that is the estimated cost over 10 years but the cost of doing nothing is never mentioned. I guess in that way it's similar to how some people at Intel think, but that's another conversation.

A program or series of programs known as Triad cost tens of billions of dollars each just to maintain and not execute. The programs are designed to drop nuclear bombs on the Soviet Union, not Russia but the Soviet Union. Which no longer exists. The three programs are split between bombers, submarines and ICBMs (intercontinental ballistic missiles). Bombers have long since been deemed obsolete in trying to bomb Russia but they have not been discontinued in this program.

It's amazing how people are not concerned with the things most likely to cause them harm but if people are told they should be scared the cost is no longer an issue. The average American is much more likely to die from losing their health insurance rather than any type of foreign attack, terrorist or not. But the average American doesn't understand how they could lose their insurance, not until they have already lost it. It's amazing what a horrible education system will do to the minds of the flock.
