interesting sprint propositions

http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4794525

chris johnson vs usain....INSANE. usain would kill this dude but i still want to see this. how much faster are track runners than fast football players.

one question where is rajon at... after challenging chris johnso i would think he could spare some time maybe over all star weekend to make this happen.

so they are arguing over the length... this is easy run both the 40 and the 100 m or average the two distances for one race (in fear that the second race would be so much more inferior to the first due to burn out particularly only on johnson's part)...

this brings up another point from this weekend... everyone is trying to figure out what to do with the all star game for the NFL... people hate the fact that it isn't anywhere close to a real game due to rule changes in fear of injury.

i say get rid of the game and do skills challenges by position.... basically the combine. i want to see bench press by position, 40 by position, quickness by position, hands by positions where applicable, qb scrambling contest, qb arm strength and accuracy, etc. also where applicable declare an overall winner and have the winner by position compete against the other winners... thus chris johnson vs revis vs desean jackson, vs vilma vs jeff saturday vs vernon davis vs aaron rodgers vs jared allen in the 40.... this could be a full weekend and alot more interesting. offer REAL money to competitors and winners to urge people to compete because i can already see folks intimidated (not wanting to be exposed) by others and not wanting to compete (similar to how certain NBAers trip about the dunk contest when they have reached a certain status within the sport).

  1. I think Every Coach's Dream takes Bolt in the 40 yard dash and Bolt wins the 100 by an wide margin. Bolt is not a fast starter, so Johnson would win easily there. Make the race 70 yards and it would be very interesting. I like Bolt, the natural sprinter, in this race. What would also be interesting is to put both guys in pads and make them carry a football to see who has the fast "football" speed.

This reminds me of the 150 yard race that Michael Johnson and Donovan Bailey ran a few years back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sryuicuQyR0 That was a big letdown if you don't remember. I personally think that Michael Johnson knew he was beaten and didn't want to finish the race. Weak.

  2. dude, usain would win in the 40... the margin would be shorter... with pads would be interesting but if usain practiced he would win that too... chris johnson can't beat tyson gay, asafa powell, etc. in the 40.... he probably belongs in the heat right before the final heat of the olympics...

folks say usain is a slow starter yeah next to tyson gay who is a fast starter. any dude running a 9.6 should run a 4.0 flat 40....

  3. I think the 40 is close. This article is the only one I say that makes sense. http://speedendurance.com/2009/08/06/40-yard-dash-times-for-usain-bolt-and-ben-johnson/

This site shows each sprinter's 40 yard (36.6 meter) time in actual races AND using a calculation based on the following:

** Reaction time is not considered
** the 0-10m segment is the same as the 100 meters (Phase 1)
** the 10-20m segment is an average speed of ** the 10-30m segment in a 100m (Phase 2)
** the 20-30m segment is an average speed of the 30-50m segment in a 100m (Phase 3)
** the last 6 meter segment is a pro-rated speed of their top end speed (50-60m) in a 100m (Phase 4)

This says the Bolt ran a 4.35 sec 40 in the Olympics and his calculated 40 is a 4.22 sec. Interesting.

  4. i think if the runners KNOW the race is over at 37 m vs 100 m they would show more burst early on enough to knowck off 0.2 sec or so...

  5. Dude Bolt whoop a$$ on the track for a living his biggest competitor is himself. Chris Johnson doesn't have a chance, he isn't built to compete in that arena. I'd say first C.J. needs to prove he can out beat the runners Bolt put to shame like the names Trey mentioned earlier.

  6. In a race I think Bolt destroys Chris Johnson, he is not a sprinter. Ask Daren, Derek, Trey and Justin about Emeka and I kinda racing. Emeka is a fast runner but slow on the football field I am a decent runner but football fast. I don't think it's close...
