  1. Jay Elect topping the spot is no surprise to me. But J. Cole and FaShawn should move up the list in my opinion

  2. i have only heard 20-30% of the list... no argument for number one.....

no doom though... gazillion ear should have made the list just off dilla killing the boards let alone the flow but whatever....

fashawn's life as shorty should be somewhere on this list....

the ranking has me thinking maybe i did not give that cuban linx 2 a fair chance (i liked it but not enough to stop listening to fashawn and jay elect and pick it up)....

no currency and jaz-o really.... and quik and kurupt on here twice... too many rappers out nowadays

mos def's history is banannas... jay dilla (and his influence) is all over this ranking...

  4. My thoughts, I've heard about 2/3 of it:
    - #1 is right.
    - Really need to listen to that Slim Shady & Mos Def album, the stuff I've heard from either dude this year sounds inspired.
    - They picked the wrong Drake Song, should have been either Unstoppable or Successful.
    - My favorite Raekwon song isn't on there (Cold Outside)
    - Rick Ross needs another song in the top 30, his album is one of the 10 best i heard last year. dude has come up.
    - The 2 new rookies (Kid Cudi & Fashawn) i like were undersold. Figured Samsonite Man with Exile would make it.
    - The lack of Curren$y is disgusting! Jets Son, Under the clouds, Bout it '10, just pick 1.
    - Understand why Gucci isn't on there. Though entertaining, he's not hiphop.

  5. More words:
    - @ Gary: J. Cole is the truth and they're repping dude hard @ home. Lights please and the other song were playing every hour on 99.1 (I wonder why? :) Dude's a monster.
    - @Trey, Cream in your panties is a stretch but 9X out of 10 deserves it's slot. That was a good album, Quik killed the beats.
    - More on Curren$y, dude did 7 mixtapes last year and 3 albums (This Ain't No Mixtape, Jet Files & How Fly with Wiz Khadiva) this year. Besides Gucci, who does that? I wish Jay Electronica had his work ethic!

  6. @ Trey: Doom put out an Unexpected Guests album but you said you heard a good portion of that material before. So I guess that doesn't qualify as 2009 material.

It's unfortunate to see that FaShawn is slept on, this kat is spitting True-hop and I can relate to almost every song on there especially "Father" that gives me goose bumps.

You're right, no Curren$y on the list, whoa. I want a refund..

@Trevor, If I had to choose between rookie of the year considering Drake & J. Cole, I'd give it to J. Cole. He's from Fayetteville, NC and his pen game is crack. I loved him on "Just Begun" with Mos Def, Talib and Jay Elect... Got to peep it..

  7. yeah, 99.1 is the Fayettenam radio station. I grew up 20 minutes from there, they're repping dude hard at home! Lights please is extra sick, his mixtape was the "blues clues"
