Interesting statement brought up by Colin Cowherd (a guy i really don't like, but end up listening to a good bit since he's on 620 during lunch).
In America, the 7th best athlete in every high school play soccer and the other top 6 athletes either play basketball or football. In Europe, Costa Rica, etc. the best athlete plays soccer. We will never win the world cup because the best athletes here will never play soccer first.
What do y'all think, I personally feel he's right.

First of all, I like Cowherd because he makes for good sports entertainment. He thinks too highly of himself but is more reasonable than arrogant. I never say never but I do agree that US does not value soccer because it is slow and doesn't epitomize our ideals of speed,strength, strategy, explosive, domination...

the usa was up 1-0 at half and playing well with just 10 because our midfielder got red-carded... italy scored once...
interesting the later 2 goals scored by italy ultimately beating us 3-1 were scored by a dude that was born in new jersey and moved to italy at 13 for stiffer competition...his parents are italian...he had the choice to play for either but chose wisely....long story short the usa is not soccer friendly. that story really puts this in perspective
