NBA Draft discussion

So I'm on the phone with my boy Yancy talking about the NBA Draft, and here some things that we are arguing about:

Best point guard in the draft: Johnny Flynn (Y) vs. Ricky Rubio (Me)
Tyler Hansborough belonging in the lottery: Of course (Y, he'll end up being a Shane Battier) vs. He's alright but he's no lottery pick (Me, i rescind the mark madsen comments, i was trippin)
Stephon Curry: SG (Y) vs. PG (me)
Blair should go higher than Thabeet: We agree! From Y, Thabeet ain't shit! If you're going to draft a UConn player, his name should be AJ Price.
Gerald Henderson: He's an NBA player trapped in Duke basketball. You know who he reminds me off, is that guy from Washington (Roy). (Y) vs. My dog can run and jump, but does that mean that he can play basketball.
Ty Lawson: He's not going to be able to finish in the pros, he'll be bouncing up there with the trees like Shaq as opposed to an NC State Center like Josh Powell. He'll be a good distributor (Y) vs. I really think he's getting punished because Raymond Felton ain't shit in Charlotte but he was better than Felton @ UNC. He's legit (Me).
Sam Young: That's an NBA player, he's going to make a killing, he's big and can shoot (Y)
Chase Buddinger: Guess what his real name is, Luke Walton (Y) vs. I don't know who the fuck people are looking at, that guy ain't shit!
AJ Price: is real!

  1. i rubio and flynn can be good...i would bank on flynn (like him ever since he yoked on dude from rutgers or BC i think) since it will be easier to get him in an NBA uniform without contract buyouts and euro jerking around...rubio probably has more real upside...this is tough.

tyler can be good if he goes to a playoff contender that will play him 15 min a game maybe...he can be powe, big baby, maxeill, millsap in time...his jumper is already better than theirs is right now. if he goes early to a poor team he can be in an adam morrison situation.

    the thabeet/blair discussion not needed.

stephon is more of a PG to me...i think he is alot like salim stoudmire and ac law so it will be tough for him to adjust than many think due to quickness of the NBA PG vs the size of the NBA SG...in the right system he could be like delonte west, mo williams, and daniel gibson, eddie house and courtney lee but we see how well that worked out for the cavs.

gerald henderson can't go left in COLLEGE...that will be huge at the next level. he can play a dontay jones like role off the bench but i think he is a far cry from brandon roy....maybe he can get there in 3 yrs...roy was good his rookie yr. don't see that in henderson.

i like lawson but he does look alot like shammond williams...i think he can put up jameer nelson like numbers in yr two or three remembering it took jameer 5 yrs really.

sam young is the truth...he could be battier with a little more nasty and tough-minded rebounding. i see antawn jamison potential in him

chase is a little better than luke but not by much. if i needed a shooter to spread to floor i would think about drafting him...if i needed any sort of real nba banging toughness i would not draft him....reminds me of matt bonner at the 3 instead on the 4. maybe he is troy murphy if he works real hard

i like aj price but if i am looking for a SG i don't get my hopes up at all with anyone in this draft except maybe evans....

  2. Basketball? I'll start watching basketball again in about 10 months..... maybe, it depends on what the first round of the playoffs looks like.

  5. Yes, bring on the Draft discussion.
    - I agree with what Ace has been saying all year, Rubio will be the best player in this draft. To me, Blake Griffin is a notch below on an All-Star in the pros, a cat that can drop 15 and 8 on the regular. Useful, good player but not a centerpiece.
    - Milsap isn't equal to those other guys on the list, but yeah Tyler can be a big baby next year. He'd kill for the Celts, Garnett would love his hustle.
    - If you're the Knicks playing D'Antoni's system, why wouldn't you draft Ty Lawson (not @ 7 though). The up and down kamikaze style of ball is how UNC played, and you KNOW he can excel in the system. Curry clearly works because they need 4-5 people on the court who can run the floor, pass, and shoot which all fits into curry's profile.
    - Luke Walton should be offended by the Chase Buddinger comparisons. The only thing that guy can do decent is shoot, he's athletic but can't defend. Can't create his own shot, is softer than Charmin. I realize the turmoil in Arizona these past 2-3 years would make it hard for anybody to excel there, but i havne't seen 1 single thing from dude to say he's worthy of a 1st round draft pick and they've been talking about that with him for years now.
