The Lakers & Rockets Get Physical
So I'm sure most of us saw the Lakers game live last night, that is real playoffs basketball. In my biased opinion I don't think anyone should get suspended (Kobe for the elbow or Fischer). I also don't think Fischer or Artest should have been tossed out of the game.
Scolia had that hit coming, he had been playing like a punk and tried to get in Odom's face earlier that quarter. He shouldn't have been lazy and set a screen with his ass hanging high in the air. If he had lowered his center of gravity like you're supposed to he would have been fine. Now this was a pre-meditated lacrosse hit by Fischer who probably realized Scolia sets lazy picks. I have no problem with it, would have called it a personal foul and told Scolia to stay on his feet. I could have dealt with a flagrant 1, but maybe because it was called a 2 he won't get suspended.
What I don't like is how close the refs decided to call the game after Ron Artest got ejected. Almost all contact became a foul. The Lakers were in the penalty in the 4th within 4 minutes or less. Kobe got a tech for telling Battier he couldn't guard him after he drained a 20 footer in his face.

ReplyDeleteKobe was dirty but it was in the flow of the game. Like in boxing the difference between a low blow head butt and biting one's ear off. No one saw the elbow until the replay how were the refs supposed to see it? Elbows fly in hoops... People are just mad Kobe got away with it, he is the star and Ron has a rep.
Fish should not miss anymore time unless the league wants to punish the Lakers to appear to not be favoring the Lakers cuz Kobe is not missing any games.
Odom and Artest will be the first to actually fight. It's the Queens thing. reference Skip to My Lou and Otix.... Queens Baby!
Anyone who has played basketball on any level will catch an elbow. Hell, Connie and Emeka throw elbows all day on the Intel courts. It's a physical game. Get over it.

ReplyDeletei just want to say i was right about the fact that kobe is not getting suspended (start league) but to avoid looking bias for the lakers fish has to sit out again so ppl won't whine about a donaghy later in favor of the lakers....
someone made a great point though. if artest throws that elbow they would have reviewed the play after kobe gives the exact artest reaction and thrown artest out (because i do believe the elbow was subtle---no one saw it until replay sort of like house's elbow except it made good contact). or they would have thrown him out for the next game upon review and talk a day later....IS THAT FAIR.
i also told my dad today that scolla should have never been leveled like that by a smaller dude. as ChACE alluded to there is a certain stature to take in setting a pick in order to protect yourself (i know from picking emeka and eugenio; its basketball---you just can't lolly gag to someone like that)...but fish did size him up from the top of the key for like 2 full seconds....
