Was playing Jameer in LA a good move

Trey and I had a long text conversation about this...what do y'all think?

Crosby, Trey (6:56 PM):
Folks can 2nd guess stan but i think nelson should get the majority of The min. Skip is broke
Me (6:58 PM):
He broke him! Jameer isn't really ballin, but now he's stuck with him. They should have waited a week till they got 2 orlando so he could get more practice in. He looks like a guy who hasn't balled in 4 months
Crosby, Trey(7:00 PM):
No break him in on the road with no pressure. Plus you get his worst games out of The way. He will be good at home now
Me (7:02 PM):
U gotta win 4 outta 7 games. Can u really throw away 1 or maybe 2 games to get nelson right?
Me (7:03 PM):
He's not the reason they're winning now.
Crosby, Trey (7:03 PM):
Willy wonka smiles when he sees borat
Me (7:03 PM):
Lmao!
Crosby, Trey (7:04 PM):
If you insert him in orlando you are throwing those games away. Let them grow into this in la. Get all the hurt feelings out the way now
Crosby, Trey (7:04 PM):
If you insert him in orlando you are throwing those games away. Let them grow into this in la. Get all the hurt feelings out the way now
Crosby, Trey (7:07 PM):
Yes his drive is the only one they have and increases open looks. They were going down 2 anyway. At least now they wont get swept
Me (7:10 PM):
Yes, they need another guy who can create shots for himself and others. I can see why they played him, I just disagree that an 80% nelson is better than skip without more practice.
Crosby, Trey (7:13 PM):
I think it is a good move to use there games as practice especially when skip hasnt played well in five games
Me (7:18 PM):
I guess I can see what you're saying.
Me (7:19 PM):
But when he isn't playing in the 4th quarter, how good is he?
Crosby, Trey (7:27 PM):
The real question is why is jj playing over skip
Me (7:28 PM):
They need a jump shooter so they don't give an automatic guy to double dwight.
Crosby, Trey (7:29 PM):
Honestly skip shoots just as well as jj at this level. Jj is not lights out in the league

  1. if they don't win, folks obviously site this as stan's fault....

but people need to remember to me skip hadn't played well for real since boston really...anthony johnson's minutes were big in the bron series...wait i will look it up
    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/gamelog?playerId=11

ok he wasn't playing as bad as i thought....

but i think in order to get some driving to the basket jameer has to play....

i think it is better to insert him in LA where there is little pressure and all the second guessing, wondering if jameer is in game shape, wondering if he can play at this level of intensity...they get out of the way...

it comes with a price in rafer's and jonhson's ego and probably their play but i think it is the only way they have a chance to win...

with jameer the laker advantage in the back court is not sooooo huge as without.

BIGGER QUESTION IS WHY WAS JJ RUNNING POINT DOWN THE STRETCH...but in the long run i think jj will be better because of it but it may have costed them game 2 and this series...

  2. Nelson's minutes aren't the reason. They lost game 1 cuz they weren't ready, just happy to be there. The respect they gained after beating Lebron and 'em was lost. I expected to hear Wayne's track during the intros.

They lost game 2 because Courtney Lee can't make an ally oop lay up out of shape Emeka could have made. There were questionable calls but they choked.

MJ Frenchie has returned to Earth and the bench player that he is. He is scared of Kobe, he is displaying none of the apparent swagger he was rocking against Cleveland.....

  3. ok i agree with the humble one that they are not ready...this is similar to the lakers position last year against the celts....

in the end it is about matching (being one better than) the hunger and intensity of the opponent...the magic are not there.

courtney lee's shot was not that easy....it was a bad angle at the basket (the kinda a shot that leaves you in apprehension of should i use back board or not--not to mention kobe grabbing you before you take off)...if hedo passes the ball right he could have dunked...lee's layup right before the alley oop was easier. it is one of those plays where the player makes it look so easy getting the shot that everyone thinks he should make it....we should practice it one thursday.

i feel the refs are royally screwing peitrus and dwight---not enough to super complain but if stan got fined for commenting on officiating i would back him on peitrus and dwight...the refs have been calling a horrible game with those two since cleveland.

it is hard to say if jameer shouldn't have played or whatevere...i think rafer has a little starbury, jr smith, rickie davis, AI in him in that he makes it reall obvious when he is not happy and has a tendency to sulk and blame his bad play on minutes and scheme...the truth is if he balls stan would leave him in the game unquestioned...stan goes to his other options when skip isn't playing well. so to me he is doing the best he can with his talent....

if he doesn't play his allstar PG ppl still criticize them when they inevitably go down 2-0 saying how can you not play your allstar leading scorer in the reg season against lakers if he is healthy.

    which would you rather have:

rafer, anthony, jj, lee, pietrus vs farmar, fish, kobe, sasha, brown

or rafer, anthony, jj, peitrus, and JAMEER vs the lake backcourt.....

to me its simple---you play your best players if they are able to go...screw ppl's feelings at this level...

  4. - Lee made it alot harder shot than it really needed to be, it looks like he overjumped as opposed to just trying to make the layup. i gotta watch the replay to make sure
    - the refs are screwing dwight, but i disagree on pietrus. he got hosed on 1 call, but then they got the immediate payback on the next play (the 1 where he got foul 5).
    - Did you see Anthony Johnson's face when Mark Jackson was giving Jameer shit about asking for permission to start from Skip and Ant. Classic! Neither guy is happy, but fuck them. it's about trying to win a championship ring. Their feelings shouldn't have any bearings on the decision.
    - Jameer doesn't have his legs under him and it shows. he plays more than 4-5 min in a row, and he's clearly winded. That's why i suggested the extra week.

There's a train of thought that says you need to dance with the girl you brought to the party, but i don't think that applies here.

  5. From 2day's Bill Simmons column (http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=simmons/090608&sportCat=nba):

1:14: Before I forget: Rafer Alston played 51 minutes in the first two Finals games, shot 3-for-17 and missed all eight 3s. Will we ever figure out why SVG messed with the chemistry of an eight-man Orlando unit that was CLEARLY peaking after the Cleveland series? I don't care if Jameer Nelson is better ... you can't risk it. Give him Anthony Johnson's 10 minutes a game, and that's it. Rafer Alston is more fragile than the token model on "Survivor" every season. You can't yank his playing time around. How did SVG not know this?

  6. i know peitrus had 2 bad fouls on him....

reading the column, the 3 fouls bill mentions at 9:23 and 3:34 especially and at 3:08 with no replay were bogus and the one he got on fish when fish stripped the ball cleanly and then tripped; that's 4 or at least 3...fish tripped over his own feet or if they were knicked by pietrus that's incidental and can't be called....make up calls are all bs. fouling out the magic's best defender in exchange for garbage calls on the likes of luke walton and farmar are not the same...ITS DUMB---call the game not the players.

i would not not (i know 2x negative but i am making a point) play my best PG to safeguard skip's or johnson's feelings....they are not those dudes...i know he isn't the same...i thought he'd be worst actually but i feel the 80% nelson is better than skip right now...this kinda feels like kerr getting shaq...they were not going to or winning with matrix and bell so why not shake things up a little with another big man...after all amare TRUE POSITION IS PF...he should have balled...anyway the magic were not matched in the back court with peitrus and lee being their best options....throw jameer in and its a little better even if skips checks out...humble one, remember are flag football team should we have stayed with one QB the entire season for his feelings or should we have bought in that one dude to help us in the playoffs?

lee made the shot look easy number one by catching the ball and number two by gathering/banking it....so many players can't even create the space from kobe's grab let alone catch the ball and then slow their momentun in mid air to clank it off the back board...lee made it look easier such that ppl look at it and say ALL HE HAD TO DO WAS LAY IT UP (they forget the hard 1-4 steps to get to the lay-up); nevermind his head being under the rim at the point of the bank....if hedo throws the ball right (everyone thinks hedo's pass was great), lee dunks this or gasol fouls him....

bill simmons, angel and otis must have the same vision for officiating....i tend to agree with simmons on the egregious-ness but i would like to see a laker fan column regarding the same topic for full objectivity. it feels like the magic never get the benefit of the doubt while the lakers always do (fish falls, he must have been tripped; gasol shoots an air ball-foul; dwight shoots an air ball-no foul; kobe misses that must have been peitrus--of wait he already fouled out, then who is next closest---foul on lee)...they try not to make it obvious by switching up on the typical foul goat...borat is the typical foul equalizer (2nd string big men always pick up easy fouls when the refs get that itch) but borat never really gets whistle...i thought lamar was going to get at least 3 and 1s....but they are being straight blatant with it fouling out the magic's best defenders and straight ignoring the "superstar" status of dwight (he gets no love on the swipes, bumps going to the rim you know all the calls kobe gets and those horrible bad pick calls on him)....

  7. I love seeing broke Jameer, no confidence Skip, and clueless Redick out there. Love it!!! Perhaps Mike Brown should give his COY award to SVG.

    Lakers in 4!

    ReplyDelete
  8. still think lakers in 4....like i said if skip plays well he will play....

in typical role player fashion his play (driving, floaters, lay-ups, jumpers) were all good at home...he can squash all doubters by playing well regardless what gym they are in...

if he plays like a role player (timid and 2-11) on the road he will get yanked...
